Theft
EAST CAMERON TOWNSHIP - A sign was removed from segment 90 of Route 125 between the hours of 7 a.m. Aug. 13 and 8:30 p.m. Aug. 16, according to state police at Stonington.
The crime occurred when an unknown actor arrived to take a 96-inch by 48-inch yellow sign with a single black arrow valued at $350 and departed from the scene by unknown means, police said.
Juvenile charged
MOUNT CARMEL - A 17-year-old male juvenile from Mount Carmel was charged by borough Patrolman William Adamski with careless driving and underage drinking after an incident at 12:07 a.m. Aug. 9.
When the male was stopped for careless driving, three bags of various brands of beer were located in the vehicle, police said.
Harassment
MOUNT CARMEL - Martin John Wolfe, 47, of 327 Main St., Aristes, was charged by borough Patrolman William Adamski with harassment related to a 4 p.m. incident on July 31.
Wolfe was charged after he continued to contact the victim by coming to the victim's business, putting her personal belongings on the sidewalk and shouting at her, police said.
Wolfe was told by police prior to this incident to have no further contact unless it was done through an attorney, police reported.
Criminal trespass
MOUNT CARMEL - Michael Lupatsky, 42, of 24 E. Third St., Mount Carmel, was charged with criminal trespass for an incident at 10:10 p.m. July 6, according to Mount Carmel Borough Police.
Patrolman Jason Drumheller reported that Lupatsky allegedly entered a residence in the 100 block of South Hickory Street without the owner's permission and was physically removed from the residence by the homeowner.
The citation was filed in the office of Magistrate District Judge Hugh A. Jones, Mount Carmel.
Public drunkenness
MOUNT CARMEL - Shane M. Ososkie, 23, of 324 E. Seventh St., Mount Carmel, was charged for public drunkenness relating to an incident at 2:20 a.m. July 28, according to Mount Carmel Borough Police.
Patrolman Dave Donkochik reported Ososkie was observed as extremely intoxicated in the area of Fourth and Grape streets.
Public drunkenness
MOUNT CARMEL - Andrew Richard Snyder, 24, of 419 S. Market St., Shamokin, was cited for public drunkenness following an incident at 3:40 a.m. Aug. 9, according to Mount Carmel Borough Police.
Patrolman Matthew Dillman reported Snyder allegedly tried to race someone in the 00 block of North Oak Street without his socks or shoes on and fell in the street.
He was unresponsive when Dillman arrived, police said.
Harassment
MOUNT CARMEL - Stacy Malkoski, 38, of Mount Carmel, was cited for harassment following an incident that took place at noon July 9 in the 00 block of North Locust Street, according to Mount Carmel Borough Police.
Patrolman Justin Stelma reported a 16-year-old female had gotten off a school bus for free lunch and had an altercation with Malkoski.
The juvenile told police she was pushed, punched and had her hair grabbed by Malkoski.
It is believed the incident stemmed over the girl calling Malkoski's children names, police said.
The citation was filed in the office of District Judge Hugh A. Jones, Mount Carmel.
Theft of services
MOUNT CARMEL - Ann Horan, 52, and Bernard Horan, 50, both of 218 S. Walnut St., were charged by Mount Carmel Cpl. Christopher Buhay with theft of services for placing household garbage in the waste containers in the Mount Carmel Town Park at 8 a.m. Aug. 10.
DUI in Kulpmont
KULPMONT - State police at Stonington charged Justin R. Hepler, 23, of 1325 Chestnut St., Kulpmont, with driving under the influence, driving without a license and other traffic violations following a traffic stop on Route 61, Kulpmont, at 3:37 a.m. June 2.
Court documents filed this week say Hepler allegedly had a blood-alcohol level of .232 percent.
He is scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 12.
Fake sticker
ATLAS - David C. Keretski, 23, of 123 N. Peach St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Mount Carmel Township Police with driving with altered, forged or counterfeit documents or plates, registration and certificate of title required, and driving without required financial responsibility following a traffic stop on Route 61, Atlas, at 1:30 p.m. June 4. A preliminary hearing on the charges will be held Wednesday.
DUI charged
MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Township police charged Roger K. Shawda, 50, of 634 E. Fourth St., Mount Carmel, with driving under the influence of a drug or combination of drugs, possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, careless driving and driving on roadways laned for traffic following an accident in the area of Brennan's Farm Road and Locust Gap Highway at 7:29 p.m. July 26.
Officer Matthew Filarski reported in court documents that Shawda refused chemical testing, but police found marijuana and 12 pills and nine pieces of morphine sulfate inside the vehicle.
A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 12 before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel.
Charged for flight
KULPMONT - Nicholas Allen Beecher, 24, of 1007 Chestnut St., Kulpmont, was charged by Chief of Police Richard Wilson III with flight to avoid apprehension relating to an Aug. 8 incident at his residence.
According to a criminal complaint, Beecher fled from Wilson when he went to serve an arrest warrant on the defendant for a misdemeanor of retail theft filed by Cpl. Dominic Picerno of state police at Selinsgrove. Police said Wilson spotted Beecher at the rear of his residence. When Wilson exited his patrol car, Beecher ran inside his home and refused to answer the door, police said.
Scam in Coal Twp.
COAL TOWNSHIP - Police here issued a warning to residents to be aware of a scam where a caller attempts to gain the trust of senior citizens by informing them that the company they are representing works in conjunction with the FBI, state and local police, and other federal and state law enforcement agencies.
The caller claims the company is installing audio and video devices in the homes of senior citizens to gather evidence on people who enter homes to scam senior citizens.
Police said the real purpose of the scam is to gain the trust of senior citizens to learn about valuables, bank accounts and other information through normal conversation while installing what are more than likely "dummy devices" in their homes.
Coal Township police urged anyone who experiences any of these contacts to call them or police in their respective jurisdiction.
Tools stolen
COAL TOWNSHIP - James Conbeer of Coal Township reported someone stole a tool bag and tool box containing electrical test equipment and various tools from his vehicle while it was parked in the 900 block of Juniper Street Tuesday evening.
DUI offenses
MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Duane Harold Maurer, 49, of 406 Catherine St., Ashland, was charged by Patrolman David Stamets Jr. for driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of a drug or combination of drugs and possession of a controlled substance relating to a March 31 incident on Route 901 at Locust Gap.
Police reported Maurer had amphetamine in his blood system while driving a vehicle.
