Motorcycle chase

SHAMOKIN - A city man was charged with theft and other offenses after leading police on a motorcycle chase through the area on May 21.

City police Patrolman Raymond Siko reported in court documents that Joseph Miscavage, 19, of 244 W. Sunbury St., was operating a motorcycle along Clay Street with no registration displayed and no helmet or eye protection. The officer stopped Miscavage and ordered him to stop the bike and push it to a safe area.

When Siko reached Franklin Street, he observed Miscavage accelerate and travel south on Franklin Street, refusing to stop. The motorcycle turned onto Pine Street, failing to stop for a stop sign. He traveled a short distance on Pine Street before stopping. He was then apprehended by police.

Miscavage said the bike belonged to a friend, Steven, but he couldn't give an address, police said. According to the affidavit, Miscavage became disorderly and was handcuffed by police.

Coal Township police determined the motorcycle was reported stolen from Tharptown.

Miscavage told police a juvenile gave him the motorcycle, claiming the youth said he received the bike from his uncle, according to police records.

Miscavage was charged with receiving stolen property, fleeing and eluding a police officer, driving without a license, careless driving, failure to stop at stop signs and driving without registration. The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin,

Terroristic threats

MOUNT CARMEL - James J. Kline, 31, of 17 S. Walnut St., was charged with making terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment after an incident at his home at 12:37 a.m. Feb. 3.

Mount Carmel Borough Police Patrolman Matthew Dillman said Kline assaulted James Riggles inside Kline's residence, causing injury to his head. Kline left the home before police arrived, but called his sister, indicating he was going to torch vehicles, kill Riggles and "go after Mom."

The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 26.

Money stolen

MOUNT CARMEL - Brian M. Faust, 20, of 1656 W. Spruce St., Coal Township, was charged by Mount Carmel Police in connection to an investigation of money stolen from a residence.

Cpl. David Donkochik filed the charges after approximately $2,900 was taken from the home of Brenda and Robert Taylor, of Mount Carmel, sometime between May 3 and 5.

Faust was charged with two felony counts of criminal conspiracy and one count each of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. He was committed on $25,000 bail and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 26 before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel.

Sticker altered

SHAMOKIN - Robert S. Kramer III, 25, of 424 W. Cherry St., Mount Carmel, was charged with driving with an altered inspection sticker and a number of traffic citations following a stop at Sixth and Walnut streets at 4:10 p.m. June 1.

According to court documents, Shamokin City Police Patrolman Ray Siko said he stopped Kramer, who was operating a Jeep, after seeing the inspection sticker partially pulled away from the front windshield. The vehicle also had a March 2014 registration sticker on its license plate, but a check with PennDOT records showed the registration expired in April 2013.

After being taken to the station, Kramer allegedly told police that a friend gave him the blank inspection sticker and that he took the registration sticker from a wrecked car at his place of employment.

In addition to the misdemeanor charge of driving with an altered inspection sticker, Siko cited Kramer for driving without a valid certificate of inspection, driving without financial responsibility, driving without registration and driving with a suspended registration. The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Andrew H. Reich III, 20, of 221 Coal Run, Coal Township, was charged with retail theft by Coal Township Patrolman David Sage after an investigation into an incident at Walmart SuperCenter, Route 61, Coal Township. Reich, who was an employee at the time, allegedly removed an Apple iPod Touch valued at $225 and various food and drink items from the store without paying for them on June 21, 2011.

The charge was filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.

Money stolen

SHAMOKIN - Phyllis Reichenbach, 40, of 20 E. Lincoln St., Shamokin, was charged with theft by unlawful taking by city police Patrolman Shane Mowery after she allegedly took $50 from the counter at Puff's Discount Cigarette Outlet at 3:45 p.m. May 22. The money had been placed on the counter by Josh Fanella to purchase a carton of cigarettes, police said.

The charge was filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.

Burglaries

COAL TOWNSHIP - A house trailer and another home on Big Mountain Road were burglarized earlier this month, according to township police.

Patrolman Jason Adams says small appliances were stolen from the home between the evening of June 9 and the morning of June 15, while electronics were taken from the trailer between 6 p.m. June 12 and noon June 13.

Anyone with information on the incidents are asked to call police at 644-0333.

Vehicle thefts

COAL TOWNSHIP - Township police are investigating thefts from several vehicles parked in the Springfield area overnight June 13. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 644-0333.

Crash

TREVORTON - A Winfield man suffered moderate injuries Monday in a one-vehicle crash along Route 225 in Little Mahanoy Township, about 1 1/2 miles southwest of Trevorton.

State police at Stonington said Paul A. Byers, 18, was driving a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 north about 7 p.m. when the vehicle veered off the north berm, causing it to flip and travel onto a lawn of a private residence near Sunshine Drive.

Byers was wearing a seat belt. He was taken by Trevorton Ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

An investigation continues.

Bike stolen

COAL TOWNSHIP - A black-and-white Chaos boy's bicycle valued at $100 was reported stolen June 16 from Melissa Brokenshire's property at 515 S. Ash St. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 644-0333.

Deer collides with vehicle

SHAMOKIN TOWNSHIP - A Freeburg woman escaped injury when a deer entering the road struck her vehicle at 5:53 a.m. June 23 in the area of 3773 Route 61, according to state police at Stonington.

Trooper James A. Yankovich Jr. said that Boneta Carstetter was traveling south on Route 61 in a 2008 Dodge Ram when the animal hit her vehicle, causing disabling damage.

She was wearing her seatbelt, police said.

The truck was towed from the scene by Paul's Autobody.

Theft at business

HERNDON - Tracy Adams, owner of TL Adams, Mandata Road, reported to state police at Stonington someone broke into his business and removed items valued at $6,400 sometime between 6 p.m. June 17 and 6 a.m. June 18.

Taken from the business were $250 in cash, a Howa .243 caliber rifle, a Kawasaki KX65 Mini Racer motorcycle, an Echo gas tiller/cultivator, two Echo gas blowers, two Echo hedge trimmers, an Echo shredder and vacuum, five Echo gas trimmers, seven Echo chain saws, a Dolmar electric hedge trimmer, a Dolmar electric chain shaw, 24 cans of oil, 10 chain saw chains and three pairs of gloves.

All items, except for the rifle and motorcycle, were in new condition and displayed for retail sale. The total estimated value is $6,400.

Drug charge filed

COAL TOWNSHIP - A 14-year-old female from Shamokin has been charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana by Coal Township Police. Officers say the marijuana was found inside her book bag while she was attending Shamokin Area Middle/High School on May 16.

The charge has been filed with Northumberland County Juvenile Services.

Disorderly conduct

MOUNT CARMEL - Borough Police Officer Jason Drumheller cited a 15-year-old Marion Heights female with disorderly conduct for kicking over a portable toilet on the Mount Carmel Borough Recreation Complex/Little League grounds.

Police received information that the female was responsible for the act and then viewed a video on Facebook that displayed the incident. The citation was filed through the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel.

Code citations filed

COAL TOWNSHIP - Code enforcement officer Chris Petrovich filed the following citations against property owners Monday for violations of the township's ordinances:

George Atiyeh, 54, of Allentown, cited for brush, grass and weed violations at 1508 Wabash St. and 1007 W. Walnut St.

Jill M. Kozloski, 32, of Coal Township, cited for accumulation of garbage and rubbish in front of 1756 Tioga St.

Thomas A. Griffith, of Winchester, cited for failure to have an occupancy permit and failure to report the status of occupancy at 1030 W. Lynn St.

Public drunkenness

MOUNT CARMEL - Jeremiah J. Worzalla, 28, of 19 S. Beech St., Mount Carmel, was cited for disorderly conduct and public drunkenness following an incident at 2:04 a.m. June 2 on South Beech Street.

At that time, police observed Worzalla setting off explosive air display fireworks in the area. Police determined Worzalla had been drinking.

The citation was filed by Mount Carmel Borough Police Officer Jason Drumheller, who was assisted on scene by Officer William Adamski. The citations were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel.

Code violations

SHAMOKIN - Code enforcement officer Rich Bozza has filed the following citations against property owners June 18 for violations of the city's ordinances

Ted Long, of 524 Mill St., Catawissa, cited for failing to register his rental properties for 2013.

Robert Santore, of 217 Third St., Ranshaw, cited for having the structure at 205 S. Seventh St., Shamokin, vacant for more than 10 years.

Malcolm Derk, of 334 Chestnut St., Sunbury, cited for having a vacant property and causing a public nuisance at 26 N. Marshall St., Shamokin.

Esther Kolody, of 802 Trevorton Road, cited for having a vacant property at 524 N. Second St., Shamokin.

Disorderly conduct

MOUNT CARMEL - Borough police cited Hasan Mustafa Abuomar, 19, of 239 S. Hickory St., for disorderly conduct following an incident at 5:45 a.m. June 3 in the 100 block of West Fourth Street.

Police said excessive music could be heard coming from a motor vehicle driving past the police department. Minutes later, the same vehicle drove by for the second time, playing excessively loud music. The vehicle was stopped and Abuomar was issued a citation. The citation was filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel.

Scattering rubbish

MOUNT CARMEL - Amanda A. Hurlburt, 20, of 401 Melrose St., Marion Heights, was cited for scattering rubbish by borough Police Chief Todd Owens, based on a call made to police at 9:05 a.m. June 17.

Police say the caretaker of 242 S. Poplar St., Mount Carmel, found a bag of household trash on the property. A manila envelope with Hurlburt's name, address and telephone number on it was located inside the bag.

The citation was filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel.

Minor accident

LUKE FIDLER - No injuries were reported in a minor two-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Route 61 and Luke Fidler Road.

Coal Township Patrolman Joshua Wynn reported Gail Bedell, 62, of Pembroke Pines, Fla., was traveling north on Route 61 shortly before 4:30 p.m. after being stopped at a traffic signal when a vehicle operated by Marlin Kopp, 68, of Shamokin, rear-ended her vehicle.

CT man injured

MAYBERRY TOWNSHIP - Shane Brosious, of Coal Township, suffered moderate injuries in a one-car crash early Wednesday morning along Route 54.

State police at Stonington said Brosious was driving a blue Ford Escort ZX2 west at 2:15 a.m. near the Ralpho Township line when a deer entered the highway. Police said Brosious swerved his car to avoid the deer, but the vehicle traveled off the north berm and struck an embankment.

Brosious was transported by ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

An investigation is continuing.

Work zone crash

ZERBE TOWNSHIP - Sabrina Wiest, 26, of Trevorton, will be cited for failing to obey an authorized person directing traffic and failing to wear her seat belt in connection with a road construction zone accident at 6 a.m. Tuesday along Route 225 near Snyder Road.

According to state police at Stonington, Wiest was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Tracker north when she failed to see a flagman holding a stop sign at a road construction zone. Police said Wiest, who was driving at an unsafe speed, attempted to stop her vehicle after observing the flagman at the last moment, but the brakes locked up, causing the Tracker to skid out of control off the highway and flip over.

Police said the Tracker was towed from the scene.

Wiest reportedly refused medical treatment at the scene and transport to a hospital.

Harassment

SHAMOKIN - Cpl. Darwin Tobias III has cited Jeanette Klingler, 46, and Rudy Frazier, 48, both of 111 S. Pearl St., Shamokin, for harassment relating to a disturbance at their residence at 4:55 p.m. Monday.

Police reported Klingler is accused of attempting to slap Frazier in the face, while Frazier allegedly struck Klingler on the arm.

Criminal mischief

UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP - State police at Stonington reported someone scratched a gray 2008 Hyundai Tiburon owned by Joel Edward Hoover, 21, of Port Trevorton, while it was parked in the lot at Anthracite Industries between 3 and 11:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is urged to call state police at 286-5601.

Theft charges

DALMATIA - Heather Michelle Anderson, 27, of Sunbury, has been charged by Trooper Daniel Wilk with stealing between 15 and 20 Percocet tablets from the medicine cabinet of Theresa Marlene Dobson, 59, of 1495 Toad Valley Road, Dalmatia, between 6 and 8:30 p.m. June 11.

Bengal cats update

SHAMOKIN - Chief of Police Edward Griffiths said there have been no reported sightings of two Bengal cats since one of them bit its owner on the arm June 18 at a home in the 100 block of East Chestnut Street.

Griffiths said he believes the adopted cats, which were placed in the basement of the home after their owner was bitten, are hiding in the walls or crevices of the cellar because they are scared to come out.

"When cats like that get scared, they tend to hide from everybody," he said. "That's what I believe happened here because we have had no reported sightings of the cats since the incident."

The owner suffered a minor injury and was treated at a local hospital for the bite, Griffiths said.

Initially, police believed the Bengal cats fled from the home and were roaming free in the city.

The police chief said the felines, which have a spotted marble coat similar to that of a Bengal tiger, are normal-sized house cats and do not pose a danger to the public. But like any stray animal, Griffiths cautioned residents not to pet the cats. Anyone who spots the cats should call police at 648-5708.

According to the International Cat Association, a registry of pedigreed cats, Bengal cats were developed from crossing domestic cats and the Asian leopard cat. The breed is described as an active, inquisitive cat that loves to be up high and is busy by nature.

A representative from the Pennsylvania Game Commission previously reported the cats are legal to own, and said there are 20 Bengal cat breeders in Pennsylvania.

Car into woods

STONINGTON - A Sunbury teen who crashed a sedan into the woods on Route 4013 late Friday will be cited for a lane violation, according to state police at Stonington.

Police say Devin Renn, 18, was driving a 2000 Chrysler west on the state highway about 11:46 p.m. when he drove off the north berm and crashed in the woods.

The crash occurred south of Route 61 in Shamokin Township near the Rockefeller Township line.

Bret Whary, 18, of Paxinos, and Ian Tydryszewski, 19, of Sunbury, were passengers in Renn's vehicle. All three were wearing seat belts and no one was injured, police say.

The vehicle sustained moderate damage and was towed.

Woman crashes

SUNBURY - A Sunbury woman who crashed a sport utility vehicle on Route 890 early Saturday will be cited for careless driving, according to state police at Stonington.

Police say Chieko Glessner, 45, was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Trail Blazer south about 12:54 a.m. when she dropped her glasses. She reached for them and pulled the steering wheel to the left, causing it to drive off the southbound shoulder and into a ditch.

The crash occurred near Plum Creek Road in Rockefeller Township, more than one mile southeast of Sunbury.

Glessner was not wearing a seat belt and suffered a minor injury, police say.

Retail theft

HUMMELS WHARF - Two woman are accused of retail theft in separate incidents last week from stores located along the Golden Strip.

Fendi Payne, 23, of Lewisburg, is accused of attempting to steal items from the Strawberry Store in the Susquehanna Valley Mall at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Jennifer M. Seevers, 40, of McAlisterville, is accused of attempting to steal $333.77 in merchandise from Kohl's Department Store at Monroe Marketplace at 3:15 p.m. Thursday.

Charges will be filed by troopers of state police at Selinsgrove.

Harassment

SHAMOKIN - Nathan J. Reigle, 36, of 905 W. Willow St., Coal Township, was cited by Patrolman Nathan Rhodes for harassment and criminal trespass for kicking in a basement door at 143 N. Marshall St. at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday and spitting in the face of an unidentified female.

DUI, hit and run

COAL TOWNSHIP - Police charged Stanley A. Zelinski, 51, of 50 Sheridan St., with driving under the influence and hit and run after the investigation into a traffic accident at 12:45 a.m. March 23.

Patrolman Chris Lapotsky reported that Zelinski allegedly operated his vehicle in the 1400 block of Pulaski Avenue and struck an unattended parked vehicle owned by Joel Haupt, 47, of 5415 Upper Road, Shamokin, then failed to stop and continued to his residence and parked.

Public drunkenness

SHAMOKIN - A 16-year-old Shamokin male was cited by Patrolman Scott Weaver for public drunkenness and underage drinking relating to an incident at 2 a.m. Saturday at Willow and Anthracite streets.

Retail theft

SHAMOKIN - Tammy Lynn Zeigler, 25, of 22 N. Market St., Apt. 2, Shamokin, was cited for retail theft by city police patrolman Nathan Rhodes after she allegedly attempted to steal a pair of tweezers, valued at $14.50, from the Rite Aid pharmacy on Independence Street at 4:34 p.m. Monday.

Motorcycle stolen

COAL TOWNSHIP - David Deitrick, 38, of 814 W. State St., reported to police that sometime between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, someone stole his 1989 Harley-Davidson Sportster motorcycle.

The cycle is described as being black in color with 18-inch "apehanger" handlebars and Screamin' Eagle exhaust pipes. "Harley Davidson" is written in white on the sides of the tank.

Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call Coal Township police at 644-0333.

Simple assault

SHAMOKIN - A Shamokin man was committed to Northumberland County Prison following a domestic argument at 29 N. Second St. Tuesday.

City police patrolman Ray Siko II reported in court documents that at 11:48 a.m., police were called to a domestic dispute at the home. When police arrived, Glenn Heim Jr., 36, was sitting on the porch, then stood up and approached the officer. The victim, Glenn Heim Sr., told police he told his son to walk the dog and he refused. In the course of an argument, Glenn Heim Jr. allegedly struck his father in the shoulder with a closed fist and pushed him and his mother, Eileen Heim.

Heim Jr. was taken into custody and charged with simple assault and harassment related to domestic violence. He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin, and committed to prison on $2,500 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

2-vehicle accident

COAL TOWNSHIP - No one was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 9:08 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Brewery Curve.

Patrolman Chad Yoder reported in court documents that Ashok Kumar, 52, of Selinsgrove, was exiting Center Street onto Route 61 in a 2011 Mercedes GL450 when he pulled into the path of a 2008 Dodge truck, driven by Bruce Anskis, 59, of Coal Township, causing the accident.

Both vehicles sustained minor damage.

Guilty plea

SHAMOKIN - Shannon Shaw, 26, of 447 Harrison St., Shamokin, pled guilty to a charge of theft by unlawful taking and was sentenced to one year probation and fined $100 plus court costs following a preliminary hearing Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III.

Shaw was charged by Shamokin City Police Cpl. Bryan Primerano of taking $15 from the front door of a residence on Coal Street on March 26. A charge of receiving stolen property was dropped in the case.

Scattering rubbish

SHAMOKIN - Holly E. Madden, 28, of 63 Raspberry Hill, was cited by Shamokin City Police Patrolman Nathan Rhodes for scattering rubbish, after throwing a soda bottle out of a moving vehicle, which struck the vehicle of Albert Loss, traveling behind her at 4:48 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of West Lincoln Street.

Curfew violation

SHAMOKIN - A 17-year-old Mount Carmel male was cited for violating Shamokin's curfew ordinance by being out in the 600 block of Bear Valley Avenue at 1:28 a.m. Tuesday.

The city's ordinance states that no one under the age of 18 is to be seen walking outside after 11 p.m. without an adult with them.

Held for court

MOUNT CARMEL - Lon E. Gilger, 55, of 6 E. Mill St., Elysburg, was held for court Wednesday on charges of aggravated indecent assault of a child, aggravated indecent assault, corruption of minors, two counts of indecent assault and indecent exposure.

Gilger was ordered by Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones to appear for plea court Aug. 5 at Northumberland County Courthouse in Sunbury, where he can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.

The defendant was charged by Ralpho Township Cpl. Bryon Chowka with sexually molesting an 11-year-old girl from July 5, 2010, to July 26, 2012.

Police said Gilger allegedly touched the female on several occasions, tried to have the female touch him after exposing himself and attempted to look up her shorts as she laid in bed.

According to a criminal complaint, the juvenile confided to a family friend about the incidents in emails and went to police in July 2012, when the investigation started.

Waives case

MOUNT CARMEL - Franklin M. Middaugh, 25, of 1049 W. Coal St., Trevorton, waived to court Wednesday charges of possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession with intent to deliver heroin, criminal conspiracy and possession of drug paraphernalia relating to a June 23 traffic stop along Route 901 between Excelsior and the former Boylan's Garage.

The charges were filed by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Matthew Filarski.

Middaugh was ordered by Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones to appear for plea court Aug. 5 at Northumberland County Courthouse in Sunbury, where he can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.

Terroristic threats

MOUNT CARMEL - William R. Bilder, 57, of 315 S. Hickory St., Apt. 312, Mount Carmel, has been charged by Chief of Police Todd Owens with terroristic threats, stalking and disorderly conduct in connection with an April 15 disturbance at his apartment building.

According to a criminal complaint, Bilder is accused of threatening to harm Robert Tamecki.

PFA violation

ATLAS - Adam M. Hendricks, of 451 W. Third St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Matthew Filarski with violating a protection from abuse order.

Police reported Hendricks threatened to blow up the house of Debra Palestis, of 147 W. Saylor St., Atlas, and came near her residence June 9 after being prohibited from making contact with Palestis in accordance with a PFA she filed against him.

Theft charges

KULPMONT - Chad M. Keefer, 30, of 1300 Scott St., Kulpmont, and Brandy S. Hand, 26, of 955 Chestnut St., Apt. 2, Kulpmont, were charged by Patrolman Michael Pitcavage with theft, receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police reported Keefer and Hand are charged with stealing a small amount of money, an iPod and three XBox games from Hand's son May 10 at 955 Chestnut St., Apt. 2.

DUI

RALPHO TOWNSHIP - Benjamin M. Putnam, 38, of Bath, was charged by Patrolman Stephen Spade with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol relating to a May 16 incident outside Glosser Motor Inn along Route 487.

Police reported Putnam had a blood-alcohol content of .315 percent.

DUI

KULPMONT - Patrolman Patrick McAndrew has charged Michael P. Dunphy, 27, of 722 Spruce St., Kulpmont, with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of a combination of drugs, driving under suspension and possession of drug paraphernalia involving a March 9 incident in the 800 block of Chestnut Street.

Police reported Dunphy had Alprazolam, Oxycodone and Oxymorhone in his blood system at the time of the incident.

HUBLEY TOWNSHIP - State police at Schuylkill Haven said a 17-year-old male from Hegins will be cited for underage drinking after he was found unconscious lying halfway on Quaker Road at 11:25 p.m. Thursday.

Police said the teen was transported by ambulance to Schuylkill Medical Center East in Pottsville, where he underwent emergency room treatment.

Resisting arrest

COAL TOWNSHIP - A Shamokin man was taken into custody after resisting arrest during an investigation by Coal Township police at 12:25 a.m. Saturday in the area of Big Mountain Road.

Police reported when they made contact with Dawel Lantigua, 20, with a last known address of 17 S. Rock St., Shamokin, he provided a false name.

When he was being arrested, Lantigua allegedly attempted to run from police and resisted arrest. After being placed in custody, the authorities learned of numerous outstanding warrants for Lantigua. He was committed to Northumberland County Prison on an outstanding bench warrant from the Northumberland County Sheriff's Department, while charges of giving false identification to law enforcement and resisting arrest are pending.

Police were assisted by Cpl. Jarrod Scandle, of the Shamokin City Police.

Four-vehicle accident

COAL TOWNSHIP - No one was injured in a four-vehicle crash in the 800 block of Mulberry Street at 9:47 p.m. Saturday.

Deputy Police Chief Chris Williams reported a 1994 Chevrolet truck, driven by Samuel Jeremiah, 52, of 1101 W. State St., was traveling east when he bent down to pick up some tools that had fallen on the truck floor. When he did, his vehicle crossed Mulberry Street and struck a parked 2006 Dodge Caravan, owned by Daniel and Amanda Jones, of 801 W. Mulberry St.

The Caravan was then pushed into a 2004 Ford Escape, owned by Robert and Barbara Jones, of 1332 Scott St., Kulpmont, which was parked on the north side of Mulberry Street. The Escape was pushed into a parked 1997 Ford truck, owned by Francine Jones, of 1600 Sterling St. The Caravan sustained severe damaged while the other vehicles had minor damage.

Police cited Jeremiah for driving on the right side of the roadway.

Snyder County crash

PENN TOWNSHIP - A Paxinos man suffered a minor injury following a crash on Old Colony Road, near Quarry Road, at 11 a.m. Sunday.

State police at Selinsgrove reported a 1998 Ford Explorer, driven by Garrett D. Krouse, 20, of Paxinos, was traveling west on Old Colony Road, and after negotiating a right curve in the road, it drove off the right edge, striking a concrete culvert and tree. Krouse's vehicle then rolled down an embankment before coming to rest on its wheels.

Police say Krouse suffered a moderate injury but was not transported by EMS workers for treatment. He was cited for the crash.

Criminal mischief

COAL TOWNSHIP - Police report that sometime between 11 p.m. Wednesday and 5:14 a.m. Thursday, someone broke a window on a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe while it was parked in the 1400 block of West Walnut Street. Anyone with information on the theft is asked to contact Coal Township Police at 644-0333.

Curfew violation

SHAMOKIN - Two Shamokin females, ages 13 and 15, were cited by Patrolman William Miner for violating Shamokin's curfew ordinance after being seen in the 800 block of Oneida Street at 1:15 a.m. Saturday.

Hit-and-run

COAL TOWNSHIP - Viola Bolick, 87, of 403 S. Hickory St., Mount Carmel, reported to Coal Township Police that her 2009 Toyota Camry was struck while she was stopped at the traffic light at Hospital Road and Route 61 between 8:15 and 8:30 a.m. Friday.

Bolick was stopped behind a vehicle waiting to turn onto Route 61 when the vehicle in front of her backed into her vehicle and then left, traveling toward Shamokin.

The vehicle was described as a smaller car, possibly medium grey or medium brown in color. Bolick's vehicle sustained minor damage to the bumper.

Bicycle theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Richard Bevan, 71, of 509 Clay St., Ranshaw, reported to Coal Township police that at 8:30 p.m. Friday, someone stole an older Huffy bicycle from his property. The bicycle is black with blue on the fenders.

Two-vehicle crash

COAL TOWNSHIP - Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Trevorton Road near the Forest Hills Fire Company at 11:44 a.m. Friday.

Police reported a 1993 Chevrolet driven by Deborah Robins, 52, of 156 E. Independence St., Apt. 2, was coming to a stop for a delivery truck that was attempting to pull off of the roadway, when her vehicle was struck in the rear by a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Fern Gonsar, 60, of 1051 Shamokin St., Trevorton.

Robins was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where she was treated and released. A passenger in her vehicle, John Thompson, 50, of South Franklin Street, complained of pain in his neck, but refused treatment at the scene. Gonsar and her passengers, Justin Fisher, 22, of North Vine Street, Shamokin, and Thomas Meisel, 69, of 273 E. Coal St., Trevorton, were not injured.

Gonsar's vehicle had to be towed from the scene. Police said she will be cited for following a vehicle too closely.

Dog violation

SHAMOKIN - Gary Adams Jr., 41, of 523 N. First St., Shamokin, was cited by City Police Patrolman First Class Scott Weaver for violating the city's dog ordinance by allowing his dog to run in public under no control and scaring residents in the 500 block of North First Street at 8:45 p.m. Saturday.

Criminal mischief

EXCELSIOR - Michael Liptok, 49, of 129 Iron St., told Coal Township police that sometime between 8:30 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. Saturday, someone damaged his 1999 Dodge van, denting the rear hatch and scratching the passenger side rear quarter panel and the driver's side front bumper. The vehicle was parked near his residence in Excelsior.

Running at large

RANSHAW - Kenneth Shiffert, 48, of 213 Third St., will be cited by Coal Township police for allowing his Rottweiler dog to run at large in the vicinity of Water and Third streets, Ranshaw, between 8 and 8:15 a.m. Monday.

COAL TOWNSHIP - William Romanoski, 65, of 1151 W. Mulberry St., reported that someone scratched his 1997 Ford Explorer while it was parked near his home on Locust Street between July 1 and Monday. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 644-0333.

Parts stolen

JACKSON TOWNSHIP - Roy Adams, of Sunbury, the owner of Used Truck Parts of Pennsylvania, 1423 Mandata Road, reported to state police at Stonington that someone used force to enter his business and removed 15 large truck radiators and air chargers between 9 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say the investigation continues.

Crash

MILLERSBURG - A Sunbury man refused medical treatment after crashing into an embankment along Route 147 on Monday in Upper Paxton Township, Dauphin County, according to state police at Lykens.

Police say Truman W. Erdley, 50, was driving a 1988 Buick north about 4 p.m. when he swerved into the southbound lane and crashed near railroad tracks. Erdley told police that he swerved to avoid an unknown object that rolled down a hill.

Erdley will be cited for failing to stay in his lane of travel and for not wearing a seat belt. His vehicle was towed.

Guard assaulted

COAL TOWNSHIP - An inmate at SCI-Coal Township will be charged following the assault of a corrections guard at 11:50 a.m. Wednesday.

State police at Stonington said Sgt. Derek Nejedly, 43, was struck twice in the head by inmate Michael Lassiter, 31, during an incident in the dining hall. Nejedly was transported to Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital where he was treated and released.

Identity theft

MOUNT CARMEL - Barry T. Adams, 30, of 111 N. Market St., Mount Carmel, was charged with identity theft and related crimes following an investigation into ordered cell phones in March.

According to court documents, Adams allegedly used the Social Security number of David Urbanowicz to open up cell phone accounts from three different cell phone companies, running up bills totaling $1,906.61.

Mount Carmel Borough Police Patrolman Matthew Dillman charged Adams with four counts of access device fraud, and two counts each of identity theft and theft by unlawful taking or disposition. He was arraigned Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, and placed in Northumberland County Prison on $20,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, July 17.

Disorderly conduct

COAL TOWNSHIP - Police charged Rodney Cossari, 24, of 128 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin, with disorderly conduct following an incident on July 3 at the intersection of Route 901 and Quarry Road.

According to police, Cossari allegedly was yelling and jumping on the hood of the vehicle of April Heckman, 28, of the same address, while she was sitting in the vehicle. Cossari then took her car keys and cell phone and pulled her out of her vehicle. Heckman began walking away from Cossari, who then returned her keys and phone before both left the area.

Aggravated assault

MOUNT CARMEL - Nicholas P. Koons, 27, of 244 S. Oak St., second floor apartment, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment following an incident at 520 E. Fifth St. at 10:28 p.m. June 16.

Mount Carmel Borough Police were called to the scene for an assault. The victim, Robert Longo Jr., had a deep laceration on his right shoulder and cuts on the back of his neck.

A witness told police that Koons came to the residence looking for his property and then pulled a knife on Longo, but the knife was taken from Koons. Koons allegedly struck Longo in the back of the head with a dinner plate.

Koons was charged by borough police Patrolman Jason Drumheller and was placed in Northumberland County Prison on July 3 on $20,000 bail.

Simple assault

MOUNT CARMEL - Police charged Wilburn H. Denman, 45, of 28 Bower St., Montgomery, with simple assault, harassment and endangering the welfare of a child following an incident at 6 p.m. Tuesday at 45 N. Maple St.

Borough Police Patrolman Kevin Katch reported in court documents that Denman allegedly pushed the victim, Robin Brown, against a stove in the Maple Street residence while Brown was holding her four-month-old goddaughter. Denman then allegedly threw Brown against the stove, causing a bruise on her right arm.

Denman was arraigned Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, and placed in Northumberland County Prison on $15,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for a later date.

Theft of money

MOUNT CARMEL - Borough police charged Jericho S. Linkchorst, 20, of 415 E. Avenue, with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and loitering and prowling at night after he allegedly removed several payments for garbage services from residences throughout the borough between May 22 and 30.

He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, Tuesday and placed in Northumberland County Prison on $15,000 bail. A preliminary hearing on the case is scheduled for Thursday, July 18.

PFA violation

ATLAS - Adam M. Hendricks, of 451 W. Third St., Mount Carmel, was charged with indirect criminal contempt by Mount Carmel Township Police Patrolman Matthew Filarski following an incident at 8:45 a.m. June 9.

Police report in court documents that Hendricks violated a protection of abuse order by being near the home of Debra Palestis, on West Saylor Street, and made threats to blow up the home.

A preliminary hearing on the charges will be held in Northumberland County Court, Sunbury.

Theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Nathan Reigle, 36, of Coal Township, was charged with theft and receiving stolen property after he allegedly stole a 1989 Harley Davidson Sportster owned by David Deitrich, of Coal Township.

Township Patrolman Chad Yoder said Reigle is accused of taking the vehicle from a lot in the 800 block of West State Street between the evening hours of July 2 and the morning of July 3.

Reigle was arraigned via video by District Judge John Gembic, of Shamokin, at 10:38 a.m. July 10 after being picked up on a warrant.

He was transported to Northumberland County Prison after failing to post $15,000 cash bail.

Teen escapes

COAL TOWNSHIP - A 17-year-old boy from Stroudsburg was charged with escape for allegedly running out the front door of a boot camp building at Northwestern Academy at 4:15 a.m. May 26, according to Coal Township Police.

Patrolman Chris Lapotsky said the teen was located five days later on May 31 in Bethlehem by Bethlehem Police Department.

Charges were filed with Northumberland County Juvenile Services.

Teens sought

SUNBURY - Sunbury Police Department was searching Thursday to locate two juveniles who were last seen in the early morning hours Thursday at their residences in the city.

Sgt. Christopher Blase said Joseph Theis, 16, is a white male with blonde hair and blue eyes; he is 5 feet, 9 inches tall, and weighs 120 pounds. Blase said Christopher Reicher, 15, is a white male with brown hair and hazel eyes; he is 5 feet, 10 inches, and weighs 120 pounds.

They are believed to be traveling together, police said.

Occupancy violation

COAL TOWNSHIP - George Atiyeh, of Apartments and Acquisitions LP, 1102 Fullerton Ave., Allentown, was cited July 8 and July 9 for violating a township ordinance concerning occupancy permits and reporting the status of occupancy, according to the Coal Township Police Department.

Patrolman Chris Petrovich said the properties in question are 1008 W. Lynn St. and 1224 Pulaski Ave., both in Coal Township.

No one hurt

UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP - Two drivers escaped injury in a two-vehicle accident at 7:50 a.m. Thursday on Sunbury Street (Route 4012) at its intersection with Black Mill Road, according to state police at Stonington.

Trooper David Townsend said Daniel N. Zuckerman, 19, of Mecklenburg, N.Y., was traveling west on Route 4012 in a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban when he attempted to turn the vehicle left onto Black Mill Road.

His Suburban was struck by a 2007 Ford Focus being driven east on Route 4012 by Andrew C. Bingaman, 24, of Sunbury, police said.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts, police said.

Zuckerman was cited for failing to yield the right of way to a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction.

City chase

SHAMOKIN - A 21-year-old Coal Township man accused of leading city officers on two high speed chases early Friday while driving his father's Jeep is jailed in Northumberland County Prison, Sunbury.

Levi Reigle, of 1244 Chemung St., is accused of running eight stop signs beginning at Lincoln and Eighth streets, where the first chase began shortly before 1 a.m., and continued into the Fifth Ward. Police said Reigle was alone when he drove a 1998 Jeep Cherokee into the hills of Big Mountain where the initial pursuit ended.

He again drove into the Fifth Ward about 10 minutes later and sped about on city streets, including Shamokin Street, according to police. That pursuit, too, ended with pedestrian safety in mind.

Cpl. Jarrod Scandle took Reigle into custody shortly before 2 a.m. at his home and transported him to the city police station where he allegedly failed field sobriety testing. Results of blood tests conducted at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital are pending.

Reigle is charged by Scandle with two counts each of driving under the influence, fleeing police, disorderly conduct and reckless driving along with eight stop sign violations.

He was arraigned at 9:30 a.m. Friday before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III and remanded to county prison in lieu of $15,000 cash. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.

Scandle was assisted by Patrolman William Miner.

The Jeep is owned by Jacob Reigle.

DUI charges

TREVORTON - Drunk driving charges were filed against a Sunbury man related to a June 8 crash near Trevorton.

According to state police at Stonington, Daniel Martin Cressinger, 47, of 205 N. Ninth St., had a blood alcohol level of 0.211 percent when he rolled a 1990 Ford Ranger while driving on Route 890 toward Trevorton. The vehicle struck a guide rail with its passenger side, crossed the highway and hit an embankment before rolling several times. He was alone at the time of the crash, which was reported at 8:14 p.m.

Witnesses told police Cressinger's vehicle was observed "all over" the highway just prior to the wreck.

Trooper Mark Adams said Cressinger smelled strongly of alcohol and slurred his speech while he was interviewed in the back of an ambulance. Field sobriety testing was not performed due to his injuries.

Cressinger is charged by Adams with two counts of driving under the influence, one count each of careless driving and speeding and two other roadway violations.

A preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic II is scheduled for Aug. 6.

Scrap theft

SHAMROCK MILLS - Charges were filed Monday against a Danville man accused of attempting to steal $250 worth of aluminum on June 4 from a Shamokin Township scrap yard.

State police at Stonington says Joey Allen Aikey, 31, of 4 Upper Mulberry St., entered Stoneroads Iron and Metal, 346 Rose Road, Shamokin Township, about one mile north of Route 487, and loaded his vehicle with the scrap metal. The scrap yard's owner arrived about 7 a.m. to open up and encountered Aikey and held him on scene until police arrived.

Aikey is charged by Trooper Nicholas Berger with theft, receiving stolen property and criminal trespass. A preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic II is scheduled for Aug. 6.

Pot at prison

COAL TOWNSHIP - A Carbon County woman was arrested last month after allegedly being found in possession of marijuana and a smoking pipe during a random vehicle search in the parking lot of SCI-Coal Township.

State police at Stonington said Laura Jane Getz, 23, of 1060 Main Road, Lehighton, drove a 2004 Oldsmobile Bravada to the state prison about 9:30 a.m. June 15. She consented to a random vehicle search and admitted to possessing a small amount of marijuana and the pipe, which was found in her purse.

Trooper Wendy Keefer charged Getz with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. A preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic II is scheduled for Aug. 6.

Lanyard stolen

COAL TOWNSHIP - A Shamokin woman is charged by township police with retail theft for allegedly stealing a zebra-print lanyard valued at $1.97 from Wal-Mart Supercenter along Route 61.

Patrolman Ed Purcell filed the charge against Jesika Leigh McCann, 21, of 1008 N. Pearl St. The incident allegedly occurred between 5:40 and 5:55 p.m. June 29.

Stopped by a member of the store's asset protection division, she did not have valid identification and admitted having a prior conviction for retail theft.

A preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic II is scheduled for Aug. 13.

Woman charged

COAL TOWNSHIP - A Shamokin woman is accused by township police of striking a man with a broken broom handle.

Christina J. Hepner, 25, of 19 E. Independence St., Apt. 7, and the alleged victim were involved in an argument at 1133 W. Montgomery St. after midnight Tuesday when she allegedly struck him in the forearm, causing injury.

She is charged by Patrolman Matthew Henrich with simple assault and harassment.

Theft charges

COAL TOWNSHIP - Joseph Miscavage IV, 19, of 128 Tharp St., Tharptown, and a 15-year-old male from Shamokin have been charged by Patrolman Chris Lapotsky with stealing a 2008 "Baja-Heat" mini bike from the rear of Robert Schleig's property at 705 Center St., Tharptown, on May 20.

Police said the mini bike was recovered, but sustained approximately $200 in damage.

Miscavage was charged with theft, criminal conspiracy to commit theft and criminal mischief. The teen was charged with theft, receiving stolen property, criminal conspiracy to commit theft and criminal mischief.

Robbery

ADAMS TOWNSHIP - State police at Selinsgrove are searching for a white male in his late 30s or early 40s who allegedly robbed a 27-year-old female between 1:30 and 2 a.m. Sunday along Route 4014 in this Snyder County township.

Police said the suspect, who is of average build, stopped along the road and made advances toward the victim who was building a fire. Police said the man then stole money and medication from her purse. He then fled the scene in a red full-size Chevy pickup truck.

Simple assault

PALO ALTO - John Liptok, 24, of Pottsville, has been charged by state police at Schuylkill Haven with simple assault and harassment for allegedly assaulting Kevin Wagner, 26, of Auburn, who suffered numerous injuries.

Police said the assault occurred between 9 p.m. July 9 and 1 a.m. July 10 along railroad tracks beneath Route 61 in this Schuylkill County borough.

Criminal mischief

COAL TOWNSHIP - Eric Dietrich, 51, of 402 1/2 Mahoning St., Milton, has been charged by Patrolman Chris Lapotsky with criminal mischief relating to an incident at 5:30 p.m. June 3.

Police reported Dietrich took a 2002 Saturn owned by Michael Morris, 59, of 9 N. Seventh St., Shamokin, without his permission from Jones Enterprises along Route 125. Police said Dietrich returned to Jones Enterprises a short time later and allegedly cracked the windshield and fender and smeared black grease all over the cloth front seats of Morris' car, causing $1,346.74 worth of damage.

Public drunkenness

SHAMOKIN - Shawn Soliday, 29, of 10 S. Vine St., Shamokin, was cited by Patrolman Shane Mowery for public drunkenness for causing a disturbance at about 8 p.m. July 7 at Vine and Oneida streets.

Teens found

SUNBURY - Two teens from Sunbury, who left home early Thursday morning, have been found, according to city police.

Sunbury City Police Chief Stephen Mazzeo reported Monday that Joseph Theis, 16, and Christopher Reicher, 15, have been found and are currently under the care of the Northumberland County Children and Youth Agency.

In a press release, police thanked the local news media, general public and the assisting law enforcement agencies that discovered the "endangered youths."

3 escape injury

BUFFALO TOWNSHIP - Three Shamokin residents escaped injury in a two-vehicle crash Monday morning at the intersection of Dreisbach Church Road and Route 45 in this Union County township.

State police at Milton reported Richard Martin, 37, and his two passengers, Tonya Wilk, 30, and Frank R. Nahodil Jr., 38, were not injured in the 9:25 a.m. crash. John P. Mazich, 52, of Centre Hall, the driver of the other vehicle, suffered a minor injury and was transported by Mifflinburg Ambulance to Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg.

Police reported Martin was turning left onto Route 45 from Dreisbach Church Road in a 1996 Ford F-150 pickup truck and pulled into the path of Mazich's 2004 Mazda B4000, which was traveling east on Route 45. Police said the car struck the left front of the truck and spun it clockwise. Both vehicles came to rest facing east.

Police said Martin will be charged in the accident, but did not identify the violation.

Minor injury

HARTLEY TOWNSHIP - Sandra C. Facer, 44, of Mount Carmel, suffered a minor injury Monday morning when her vehicle descended an embankment along Fairgrounds Road and hit a utility pole in this Union County township.

According to state police at Milton, Facer was driving a 2011 Ford Escape north at 10:36 a.m. when she failed to negotiate a left curve, causing her vehicle to descend an embankment and crash into a utility pole before stopping.

Facer, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported by Mifflinburg Ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

She was cited for failing to drive in a single lane.
