Stolen cross
ELYSBURG - Ralpho Township police are investigating the theft of a Celtic cross from Berger Trinity Peace Shop, 475 S. Market St.
The dark green cross with gold trim was removed from the front of the building Sunday or Monday, police said.
Retail theft
MOUNT CARMEL - Kellsie Hoskie, 18, of South Market Street, Mount Carmel, was cited by Mount Carmel Cpl. Christopher Buhay for retail theft relating to incidents at 6:10 a.m. and 8:10 p.m. May 10 at Turkey Hill Minit Market.
Hoskie allegedly removed items from the store without paying for them on both occasions, police said.
Retail theft
MOUNT CARMEL - Jeffery Lee Miller, 22, of 51 N. Oak St., Mount Carmel, was cited by Mount Carmel Cpl. Christopher Buhay with retail theft relating to an incident at 3:20 a.m. April 29 at the Turkey Hill Minit Market.
Miller allegedly removed items from the store without paying for them, police said.
Disorderly conduct
MOUNT CARMEL - Brett T. Ososkie, 20, of 324 E. Seventh St., Mount Carmel, was cited for disorderly conduct relating to an incident in the area of Sixth and Vine streets at 9:44 p.m. May 15, according to Mount Carmel police.
Patrolman Dave Donkochik said Ososkie was allegedly attempting to detain a vehicle while on a pedal bike by ramming his bike into the front bumper of the car, and was also attempting to remove a female passenger from the vehicle by pounding on the door, causing damage.
Donkochik was assisted by borough Patrolman William Adamski.
Phone scam
SUNBURY - The Sunbury Police Department is conducting a joint investigation with the Sunbury Fire Department focusing on a phone scam directed at regional senior citizens.
A scammer, allegedly using the phone book and sometimes calling from a blocked number, informs a resident the local fire department requires the resident to have his chimney cleaned. The caller claims to represent Pro-Energy Maintenance Company and offers to clean the chimney for $35, police said.
The scammer then requests the resident's credit card number, police said.
Police warn residents to never give credit card numbers to an unknown person over the phone or over the Internet.
Anyone who receives such a phone offer is asked to make note of the phone number, company name and other information and report the incident to the Northumberland County 911 Center at 988-4539, police said.
Scams involving chimneys, roofs and construction jobs are common in spring and summer, police said.
Police also warned residents to not let strangers into their homes and to take note to the type, color, license plates of any vehicles and physical descriptions of any person.
Two waive hearings
MOUNT CARMEL - Courtney Titus, 19, of Berwick, and Melissa A. Daywalt, 20, of 24 E. Third St., Apt. 303, Mount Carmel, waived their rights to preliminary hearings Wednesday and were ordered by Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones to appear for plea court July 2 at Northumberland County Courthouse in Sunbury.
The defendants waived to court charges of burglary, criminal trespass, loitering and prowling at night and possessing an instrument of crime relating to a May 5 burglary at a vacant house at 414 E. Sixth St.
The charges were filed by Mount Carmel Patrolman David Donkochik.
At plea court, Titus and Daywalt can plead guilty or no contest or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.
DUI charges
KULPMONT - Jamie Cousentino, 36, of 322 S. Market St., Elysburg, was charged by Patrolman Michael Pitcavage with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to possess a driver's license, failure to possess a registration card and restrictions on alcoholic beverages.
Police said the charges relate to an April 28 incident in the 500 block of Chestnut Street.
Police reported Cousentino failed to submit to a blood test.
Drug charge
KULPMONT - Chief of Police Richard Wilson III has charged Donald J. Ponatoski, 26, of 1128 W. Gowen St., Coal Township, with possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without a license and driving under suspension involving a Feb. 8 incident at Eighth and Chestnut streets.
Fraud
MONROE TOWNSHIP - State police at Selinsgrove reported someone used credit card information from Laura Rathfon, 29, of Selinsgrove, to purchase numerous items valued at $662.49 at a Kroger pharmacy in Roseville, Mich., and a Meijer business in Warren, Mich., between Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning.
