SUNBURY - The Coal Township woman involved in a June 2 robbery of prescription medication and money from a Paxinos man was sentenced to three to 12 months in prison Monday.

Katie Labus, 20, of 400 Bay St., pleaded guilty to charges of criminal trespass and theft by unlawful taking in plea court before Northumberland County Judge William H. Wiest.

Authorities say the robbery of Irvin Snyder, of Mountain Road, netted Labus, Robert Forrest Smith, 47, of Coal Township, and Snyder's granddaughter, Melanie Guinther, 30, of Mount Carmel, more than $3,000 in cash and 300 prescription pills.

It was alleged that Smith and Labus went to Snyder's home feigning car trouble, then forced their way into the home. Smith allegedly held Snyder at knife point while Labus took the money and drugs. Guinther directed the two where to find the items and then drove them away after the robbery was committed, police charge.

Following the 10-minute hearing, Wiest sentenced Labus to Northumberland County Prison on the charge of theft by unlawful taking, and a concurrent sentence of one to 12 months on a charges of criminal trespass.

Labus was given credit for the 46 days she has already spent in prison.

She also received a fine of $300 plus the costs of prosecution and supervision, and was ordered to pay $2,950 in restitution to Snyder and $1,608.10 to State Farm Insurance.

False information

In an unrelated case, Labus also pleaded guilty to providing false information to police related to a May 31 incident in Coal Township. For that crime, she was fined $50 and sentenced to nine months probation.

Labus, who appeared Monday in an orange prison jumpsuit, stood quietly during the hearing, listening while assistant district attorney Ann Targonski and her attorney, Michael Seward, handled the details of the sentences.

Felony counts of robbery, burglary and receiving stolen property were not prosecuted.

Smith and Guinther each waived preliminary hearings and are scheduled to appear for plea court on Aug. 27, when they can either plead guilty or no contest, or not guilty and seek a trial. Smith remains in Northumberland County Prison, while Guinther is free on $100,000 bail.
