Condition improves

DANVILLE - The condition of Kim Marie Allen, 56, of 193 Stoney Batter Road, who allegedly was shot Monday in the right shoulder by her 61-year-old live-in boyfriend, Charles Elwin Bower, has been upgraded from critical to serious, according to a spokeswoman at Geisinger Medical Center.

Bower has been charged by state police at Milton with aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. He remains in Montour County Prison in lieu of $75,000 cash bail.

PFA violation

PENN TOWNSHIP - Pablo Hernandez-Roman, 24, of 717 E. Dewart St., Shamokin, was charged by state police at Selinsgrove with violating a protection of abuse order filed against him by a 24-year-old female.

Police said the violation occurred on Minton Drive between 10 p.m. Sunday and 5 p.m. Monday. The victim was not identified by police.

DUI

STRONG - Mount Carmel Township Police charged Jared White, 32, of 926 W. Walnut St., Coal Township, with driving under the influence, driving on roadways laned for traffic and failure to observe traffic signals following a traffic stop at the intersection of Routes 54 and 61 at 2:19 a.m. June 27.

Mount Carmel Township Police Patrolman Daniel Politza reported in court documents that, while on patrol, he observed White travel through a red light, almost striking an ambulance stopped at the light. A preliminary breath test showed his blood alcohol level to be .189 percent, but White told police he would refuse to take a blood test.

At the station and later at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital, White became belligerent toward police, arguing and videotaping them during the argument.

The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Aug. 26.

Disorderly conduct

MOUNT CARMEL - Edward J, Bolam, 46, of 512 W. Saylor St., Atlas, was cited by borough police Patrolman Kevin Katch for disorderly conduct after allowing his dog to continuously bark at 9:30 p.m. July 15 at 345 S. Locust St.

Public drunkenness

MOUNT CARMEL - Amanda M. Lotis, 32, of 137 W. Avenue, was cited by borough police Cpl. David Donkochik with disorderly conduct and public drunkenness after allegedly causing a disturbance near her residence at at the borough's police station at 10 p.m. July 14.

Drug paraphernalia

MOUNT CARMEL - Borough police charged Shelbey Dovi, 20, of 147 S. Maple St., with possession of drug paraphernalia after an investigation into the unauthorized use of a vehicle on July 3.

When police checked Dovi's purse, they found a clear straw with white residue inside it.

The charge was filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Aug. 26.

Harassment

MOUNT CARMEL - Borough police cited Jessica Ann Duffy, 49, of 336 S. Chestnut St., Mount Carmel, for harassment after she allegedly kicked and then struck James Hughes with a cane at 6:30 p.m. July 21.

Disorderly conduct

MOUNT CARMEL - Christopher Keifer, 32, of 532 W. Third St., Mount Carmel, was cited by borough police Patrolman William Adamski with disorderly conduct after creating a disturbance in the 500 block of West Third Street at 11:30 a.m. July 21.

Retail theft

MOUNT CARMEL - A 15-year-old Mount Carmel female was charged by borough police Chief Todd Owens with retail theft after she removed and failed to pay for $16.96 worth of merchandise from the Dollar General Store at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Child endangerment

MOUNT CARMEL - Randy Lee Campbell, 21, of 317 S. Vine St., Mount Carmel, was charged with a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child in an incident at 12:10 p.m. July 15 in the 300 block of South Vine Street.

Police reported in court documents that Campbell was watching a three-year-old male child found by police outside wearing only a diaper in need of changing in a drizzling rain. Witnesses reported the child had been outside for at least an hour before police arrived.

The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, with a preliminary hearing set for Aug. 26.

Disorderly conduct

MOUNT CARMEL - Robert Thurner, 31, of 228 W. Second St., was cited for disorderly conduct by borough police after a disturbance at his residence at 2 a.m. July 19.

Simple assault

MOUNT CARMEL - A 15-year-old Mount Carmel female was charged with simple assault, harassment and underage drinking related to an incident in 200 block of West Second Street at 2 a.m. July 19.

Defiant trespass

LOCUST GAP - An incident at a local stripping pit led police to file defiant trespass charges on a Womelsdorf man July 19 in the area called "The Slopes" on Route 901 between Locust Gap and Locust Summit.

Mount Carmel Township Police Patrolman David Tomtishen reported in court documents he was on patrol in the area at approximately 6:48 p.m. when he heard someone calling for help. In the area of the stripping pit, eight individuals were found; one gave police a false name.

The individual, Andrew R. Miller, 31, of 330 W. High St., Womelsdorf, told police he gave the false name because he had warrants against him in Berks County. Police noted that Miller seemed to be very hot, itchy and jittery. Miller told police that he took a large amount of bath salts at 1 a.m.

Police charged Miller with giving false identification to law enforcement, public drunkenness and defiant trespass. The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Aug. 26.

Jeep driver sought

ELYSBURG - Ralpho Township police seek information on a female motorist who fled the scene of a rear-end accident Thursday along Route 54.

According to police, James Herman, of Liverpool, was attempting to turn an unidentified vehicle left into a private parking lot near Southview Drive about 11:30 a.m. when he was struck from behind by a white Jeep Liberty.

The Jeep's driver is described as a blonde woman in her 40s or 50s. She was traveling with a front-seat passenger. The vehicle had a disabled veteran license plate, and likely sustained damage to its driver-side front end. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 570-672-9892.

Harassment

KULPMONT - Vincent M. Addaman, 29, of Mount Carmel, and Amber R. Addaman, 27, of Kulpmont, were each cited by Patrolman Patrick J. McAndrew for harassment for an incident at 6:41 p.m. Monday at 733 Chestnut St.

Public drunkenness

KULPMONT - Sherry Vellner, 38, of Kulpmont, was cited by Patrolman Patrick J. McAndrew for public drunkenness for an incident at 10:18 p.m. July 8 in the 800 block of Chestnut Street.

Theft at Kohl's

MONROE TOWNSHIP - State police at Selinsgrove said Joelle Sue Jackson, 39, of New Berlin, has been charged with retail theft for allegedly concealing and attempting to steal three clothing items valued at $116 from Kohl's department store at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

School break-in

RIVERSIDE - Authorities continue to investigate an incident of criminal trespass at the Riverside Elementary School July 7.

State police at Stonington report an unknown person or people entered the building without permission on that date. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 570-286-5601.

ATV theft

ROCKEFELLER TOWNSHIP - A Sunbury juvenile was taken into custody after an ATV theft at 3:42 a.m. July 7 on Houser Road.

State police at Stonington report that information was received at their barracks about stolen all-terrain vehicles belonging to Wayne Reed, of Sunbury, and another unknown individual. The juvenile was later encountered traveling on Route 890 and pursued, eventually apprehended by police.

Police said the investigation will continue.

Vehicle into creek

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP - A Dornsife man was injured in a July 10 crash on Slutter Valley Road.

State police at Stonington reported a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado truck, driven by William Whary, 78, of Dornsife, was travel west on Slutter Valley Road when he exited the roadway off the south berm for an unknown reason then drove into a creek.

Whary was injured in the crash, but police did not note the severity of the injuries.

Two vehicle crash

SHAMOKIN TOWNSHIP - A truck driver was cited in a two-vehicle crash at 10:12 a.m. July 17 at Route 61 near the intersection with Route 487.

State police at Stonington report a 1992 Freightliner truck, driven by Michael L. Honicker, 59, of Mount Carmel, was traveling north on Route 61 and making a right hand turn into the parking lot of Ken Snyder Inc., just before the intersection with Route 487. A 1994 Chevrolet sedan, driven by Dannie J. Good, 58, of Shamokin, came up on the right side of the truck in the turning lane.

Police said Honicker had activated the truck's hazard lights instead of its turn signal so Good did not know the truck was turning. The Freightliner struck the sedan on the driver's side with its passenger side trailer tires, and Good's vehicle struck the curb.

Neither driver was injured, but police cited Honicker for improper use of hazard signals.

Scattering rubbish

UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP - Steven T. Renn, of 300 State St., Sunbury, reported to state police at Stonington someone dumped six trash bags at the old Sunbury Animal Hospital building on Route 61 between noon July 5 and 8:30 p.m. July 6. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at 570-286-5601.

Harassment

SHAMOKIN TOWNSHIP - State police are investigating a harassment incident that occured noon July 25 at 4012 Route 61.

Police say Marlene E. Bennett, 44, of Pen Argyl, and Karen R. Arnold, 70, of Sunbury, engaged into a verbal confrontation. Later in the dispute, Bennett allegedly subjected Arnold to physical contact. The investigation continues.

Burglary

KULPMONT - Elizabeth Bogutski, 71, of Kulpmont, reported to state police at Stonington someone entered her unlocked residence on Poplar Street and removed a bottle of pills between 7 and 9 p.m. July 25. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at 570-286-5601.

Two-vehicle crash

BEAVERTOWN - All involved escaped injury in a two-vehicle crash at 9:19 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of West Market and North Center streets.

State police at Selinsgrove said a 1995 Ford F-150 truck, driven by Jeffrey L. Anderson, 54, of Trevorton, was traveling south on West Market Street while a 2007 Hyundai Tucson, driven by David A. Rheam, 70, of Beavertown, was stopped at a stop sign on Center Street.

According to police, Rheam attempted to make a right turn onto Market Street but pulled into the path of Anderson's truck, striking the rear passenger side of the F-150 with the Tuscon's front bumper.

Neither driver nor Rheam's passenger, Jean Rheam, 65, of Beavertown, were injured in the crash. Police cited Rheam for a stop sign violation.

DUI

SHAMOKIN TOWNSHIP - Shanda L. Marquette, 40, of 3795 State Route 61, Sunbury, was charged with two counts of driving under the influence and careless driving following an incident at the state police barracks at Stonington.

Trooper Jared Mowen reported in court documents Marquette drove to the Stonington barracks July 11 in reference to another incident. Officers noticed she showed signs of impairment, such as slurred speech and droopy eyes, and told police she had taken a Xanax pill two hours prior.

Marquette was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI and taken to Sunbury Community Hospital for blood testing. The results, received July 21, showed Marquette had several controlled substances in her system.

The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.

Tire violation

SHAMOKIN - Cody J. Rosenberger, 23, of 129 Cabin Drive, Catawissa, was cited for disorderly conduct and unlawful squealing of tires by Shamokin city police Patrolman Raymond Siko II after Rosenberger allegedly spun his tires, kicking up dirt at Independence and Franklin streets at 7:55 p.m. Sunday.

Burglary

DORNSIFE - Sarah Ritchie, 71, of Dornsife, reported to state police at Stonington someone pried open a rear door at a residence on State Road, Little Mahanoy Township, and gained entry, taking two hand guns from the residence between July 23 and 30.

DUI

COAL TOWNSHIP - Township police Patrolman Matthew Hashuga charged Albert P. Walters with two counts of driving under the influence and failure to observe stop signs after the investigation into an accident July 11 at the intersection of Route 61 and Center Street, near Tharptown.

Walters was taken to Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital, and chemical testing showed his blood alcohol level to be .239 percent.

The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.

SELINSGROVE - In 1925, the state of Tennessee prosecuted a substitute school teacher, John Scopes, for telling students about the theory of evolution.

The case soon became known as the "Scopes Monkey Trial," and two of the country's most famous lawyers took opposing sides. Clarence Darrow defended the teacher, and William Jennings Bryan argued the prosecution's case.

Decades later, playwrights Robert Edwin Lee and Jerome Lawrence wrote a fictional drama called "Inherit The Wind," which was little more than a thinly veiled retelling of the Scopes case. Successful as a play, a movie and a television production, the drama mounts a highly charged argument in favor of freedom of thought.

"The issue remains controversial today," said Bob Taylor, artistic director of The Courtyard Theater in the Susquehanna Valley Mall. The theater will present six performances of "Inherit The Wind," which is now in rehearsal. The show dates are Aug. 21 to 23 and Aug. 28 to 30.

Taylor said that Kyle Essick has been cast as Bertram Cates, the teacher who's standing trial. The defense attorney, Henry Drummond, will be portrayed by Fred Hooper, and Taylor will play the part of Matthew Harrison Brady, the prosecuting attorney.

Playing E. K. Hornbeck, the big city newspaper writer, will be Adam Randis.

Others in the cast include Kimberly MacAlister as Rachel Brown; Jim Micklow as the Rev. Jeremiah Brown; Isaac Connor as the trial judge; Justin Moore as Tom Davenport; Jason Kriner as the mayor of Hillsboro. Joanne Lauer will play Sarah Brady.

The production will be sponsored by Garfield's Restaurant.

The Friday and Saturday shows will begin at 7 p.m., and the Sunday performances will be matinees, starting at 2 p.m. Tickets will cost $15. Call the box office for reservations at 570-374-0060 .Walk-ins are welcome. Cash and credit cards accepted.

Attempted robbery

SUNBURY - Police here are investigating an attempted robbery at a residence in the 300 block of Race Street late Monday night.

Police reported an unidentified male dressed in black and wearing a mask over his face entered the home and held a male at knifepoint while demanding items. The assailant then ran from the house after being confronted by another person in the home.

The intruder was last seen running east on Pennsylvania Avenue onto Speece Street.

Defendant found guilty

SHAMOKIN - David A. Demarco, 25, of 429 W. Second St., Mount Carmel, was found guilty of a summary offense of harassment during a trial Tuesday morning before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III.

Demarco, who was ordered to pay a $300 fine plus costs, was found not guilty of disorderly conduct. A misdemeanor of simple assault was withdrawn.

He was charged by Shamokin Police Chief Darwin Tobias III with slapping his wife, Amber, grabbing her throat and pulling her hair July 13 in the 300 block of North Vine Street. Police said Demarco also threatened to kill the victim, who suffered injuries to her throat and left arm.

DUI

COAL TOWNSHIP - Trooper Nicholas Bressler of state police at Stonington charged Alexa Rae Caulder, 19, of 1206 Pulaski Ave., Coal Township, with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, failing to exhibit her driver's license, failing to drive in a single lane, careless driving, failing to wear a seat belt and operating with alcohol in her system while being a minor.

The charges relate to a July 18 traffic stop on Route 225 in Coal Township.

Police said Caulder had a blood-alcohol content of .128 percent.

DUI

SHAMOKIN - Samuel J. Rumberger, 59, of 1457 W. Walnut St., Coal Township, was charged by Trooper Jared Mowen of state police at Stonington with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol involving a July 17 traffic stop at Second and Penn streets.

Police said Rumberger had a blood-alcohol content of .182 percent.

DUI

SHAMOKIN - Rachel L. Sahutsky, 25, of 162 Fifth St., Apt. B, Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman Raymond Siko II with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and a turn signal violation in connection with a July 12 traffic stop at Independence and Market streets.

Police said Sahutsky had a blood-alcohol content of .210 percent.

Drug offense

SHAMOKIN - Chief of Police Darwin Tobias III has charged Jason Ruskuski, 35, of 67 S. Oak St., Coal Township, with possession of drug paraphernalia relating to a July 22 incident at Water and Third streets.

Police reported Ruskuski was found in possession of six syringes, a bent spoon and cotton swabs.

Public nuisance

SHAMOKIN - George Atiyeh, 56, of 147 S. Maple St., Mount Carmel, has been charged by Cpl. Bryan Primerano with misdemeanors of causing a public nuisance and disorderly conduct relating to a building he owns at 805 E. Commerce St. that collapsed at about 5:20 p.m. Saturday.

Atiyeh, a co-owner of Apartments and Acquisitions, has been cited numerous times in the past for code and safety violations at the Commerce Street building and other properties he owns in Shamokin, Mount Carmel and other communities.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Matthew Hashuga has cited three people for retail theft involving separate incidents at Walmart Supercenter.

Dina Delorenzo, 46, of Shamokin, was cited for allegedly stealing $65.41 in merchandise June 5.

Jessica L. McCollum, 34, of Kulpmont, and a 13-year-old girl from Kulpmont were cited for allegedly removing $76.14 and $95.13 worth of merchandise, respectively, June 17.

Drugs stolen

MONROE TOWNSHIP - Aimee Lynn Snyder, 27, of Coal Township, reported to state police at Selinsgrove that at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, someone took more than 100 oxycodone pills from a bottle she left in the restroom of the Kohl's Department Store.

Inmate charged

COAL TOWNSHIP - Detective Degg H. Stark from the Northumberland County District Attorney's Office has filed a charge of institutional vandalism against Jarred E. Walburn, 28, a Northumberland County Prison inmate at SCI-Coal Township.

According to a release from the DA's office, Walburn was in an argument with a county correctional officer on July 16 when he allegedly threw a food tray at his cell door, fracturing one of the high-strength window panes. Officials at the prison say the damage is estimated at $191.47 and restitution is being sought.

A preliminary hearing on the incident will be held within the next few weeks before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Matthew Hashuga filed retail theft charges against two individuals for crimes at Walmart SuperCenter, Route 61, Coal Township.

- Mallary Shingara, 27, of Shamokin, was charged after allegedly selecting two packs of diapers valued at $62.88, and then fraudulently returning the diapers, without having paid for them. The alleged incident occurred June 21.

- Brian Elliott, 24, of Shamokin, was charged after allegedly picking up a $14.88 toy and then fraudulently returning it without paying for it.

Scattering rubbish

COAL TOWNSHIP - David Seger, 55, of 1026 E. Packer St., Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman Jason Adams with scattering rubbish.

According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, Seger is accused of dumping used tires on the grounds of Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery between Sept. 13 and April 16.

MOUNT CARMEL - Charges against three individuals were either ordered held to court or dismissed during preliminary hearings Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones.

- Charges of assault by a prisoner, resisting arrest, two counts of disorderly conduct, terroristic threats and simple assault filed against Johnathon F. Steckley, 31, of 437 E. Water St., Mount Carmel, were ordered held to court.

Steckley was charged by Mount Carmel Borough Police Patrolman Matthew Dillman following an incident outside Steckley's home and at the Mount Carmel Borough Police Department July 27.

He was ordered to appear for court arraignment in Northumberland County Court Sept. 8, when he can either plead guilty or no contest or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.

- Charges of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property were withdrawn against Sean M. McDermott, 46, of 497 S. River Breeze Ave., Winfield, when the victim refused to testify.

McDermott was charged by Mount Carmel Township Police Chief Brian Hollenbush following a motorcycle theft from an Atlas home July 22.

- Charges of simple assault and harassment filed against Matthew Alan Gray, 36, of 533 Montour Road, Paxinos, were withdrawn when the victim refused to testify.

Gray was charged by Ralpho Township Police Patrolman Bryon Chowka following an incident at his home July 31 involving a physical altercation with another individual.

Man cited twice

SHAMOKIN - Charles J. Probst, 47, of 124 E. Chestnut St., was cited twice for public drunkenness and once for disorderly conduct after a series of incidents starting at 4:13 p.m. Tuesday.

Chief Darwin Tobias reported Probst was first cited when he caused a disturbance at his residence and then fled the scene. He was later found lying asleep on a sidewalk at Market and Willow streets, concerning passers-by.

Criminal trespass

KULPMONT - Borough police charged Jonathan L. Morgante, 30, of 739 Ash St., Apt. C, for criminal trespass, loitering and prowling at night, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness after a July 30 incident in the 700 block of Spruce Street.

Kulpmont Police Patrolman Patrick McAndrew reported in court documents witnesses said Morgante allegedly tried to break into a vehicle and a nearby home. When confronted by police, Morgante was staring at a brick wall, saying he was trying to get his medication out of the wall.

Morgante was arraigned before on-call magistrate Michael Diehl, of Milton, and placed in prison on $10,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 26 before Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones, of Mount Carmel.

Crash leads to charges

RIVERSIDE - A Philadelphia man faces DUI charges after an investigation into a July 8 crash at 202 Dewart St.

According to court documents, Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Jared Mowen reported a box truck, driven by Sanh T. Tran, 35, of 1203 Tree St., Philadelphia, crashed into a wooden fence in a backyard. Tran told police he was attempting to make a left turn from Hazleton Street onto Chestnut Street, but crashed into the fence. Field sobriety tests given at the scene determined Tran was under the influence of a substance; he was taken into custody for chemical blood testing.

The tests showed that Tran was under the influence of a synthetic cannabinoid drug.

Tran was also charged with failing to stay in one lane, failing to drive a vehicle at a safe speed, careless driving and reckless driving.

The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones, of Mount Carmel; a preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 9.

Disorderly conduct

SHAMOKIN - City police Chief Darwin Tobias III cited Joel A. Santiago, 18, of 401 N. Rock St., for disorderly conduct and criminal trespass for allegedly jumping a fence into a yard and hiding between residences, alarming neighbors, in the 400 block of East Spurzheim Street at 12:24 p.m. Tuesday.

DUI

KULPMONT - Brian G. Madden Jr., 31, of 255 W. Saylor St., Atlas, was charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving on roadways laned for traffic, careless driving, reckless driving and failure to wear a seat belt after a traffic stop by Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Michael App at Route 61 and Second Street, Kulpmont, at 1 a.m. July 4.

Chemical blood testing showed Madden's blood alcohol level was .158 percent.

The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones, of Mount Carmel; a preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 2.

Woman faces citations

SHAMOKIN - Linda J. Bojanac, 56, of 317 S. Coal St., was cited twice by Shamokin City Police for two separate incidents in the past week.

City Police Patrolman Nathan Rhoads cited Bojanac for harassment after she allegedly hit another individual in the head with a flower vase July 31 and left the scene before police arrived.

On Tuesday, Bojanac was cited for public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and violating the city's open container ordinance by Chief Darwin Tobias III after she allegedly walked in and out of traffic while drinking from a bottle of wine at Market and Arch streets at 5:14 p.m.

DUI

RIVERSIDE - Bruce A. Sheriff, 51, of 513 Avenue F, was charged with driving under the influence, careless driving and failure to use seat belts after an incident in front of 511 Avenue F at 11:40 a.m. July 4.

According to court documents filed by state police Trooper Nicholas Berger, Sheriff was found unresponsive in a vehicle and had been there for about an hour. Emergency personnel determined there was no medical emergency but believed Sheriff was under the influence.

Sheriff was taken to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, for chemical testing, which showed a number of prescription medications in his system.

The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones, of Mount Carmel; a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 2.

EAST CAMERON TOWNSHIP - State police at Stonington charged Nicholas F. Strohecker, 20, of 218 Strohecker Road, Herndon, with scattering rubbish after he allegedly dumped a pickup truck-load of trash over an embankment in East Cameron Township June 3.

When interviewed by police, Strohecker told police he did it to make room in his truck for the rest of his route while working for a trash collector. The charge was filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones July 30; a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 2.

Suzuki damaged

ELYSBURG - Ralpho Township Police continue to investigate a two-vehicle crash at 10:54 p.m. Thursday on Route 487 near the intersection of Northumberland Drive.

Police say a 2004 silver Suzuki, driven by Tanya Fidler, of Memorial Avenue, Williamsport, struck the rear of a black Pontiac, driven by Lori Anne Schwartz, of Lower Road, Shamokin. Inside Fidler's vehicle were two minor children in the rear seat.

The Suzuki had to be towed from the scene. The Pontiac was still drivable and no injuries were reported.

Assisting police at the scene were members of the Elysburg Fire Department, Elysburg Ambulance, and Elysburg Fire Police.

Deer causes crash

ELYSBURG - An animal is being blamed for a rollover crash at 1:25 p.m. Friday at 424 Stoney Lane.

Ralpho Township Police say a 16-year-old Elysburg was operating a 1993 Jeep Wrangler north on Stoney Lane when she swerved to avoid a deer.

The Jeep then traveled down a 10-foot embankment, rolled over and came to rest on its wheels, facing south.

The driver was wearing her seatbelt and was not injured, and the Jeep had to be towed from the scene.

3-vehicle accident

COAL TOWNSHIP - No one was injured in a three-car crash at 9:42 p.m. Thursday in the 600 block of Center Street.

Township police report a 2001 Ford, driven by Cheyanne Wallish, 19, of 1741 Round Head Drive, Weatherly, was traveling on Center Street when it struck a parked 2015 Jeep, owned by Brian and Amber Molesevich, of 657 Center St.

The Jeep was then pushed into a 2010 Cadillac, also owned by the Molesevichs, and into a tree.

Wallish and her two passengers, George Wallish, 22, of 845 Lott St., and a five-year-old boy, were not injured. The driver was cited by police for careless driving and for violating child restraint laws since the boy was not in a car or booster seat.

Simple assault

SHAMOKIN - City police charged Joshua Steele, 30, of 232 S. Coal St., with simple assault and harassment after an altercation at 9:12 a.m. Tuesday at his residence.

According to court documents, Chief Darwin Tobias III said the victim, Lori Jacobs, told police her son, Steele, got mad at her and started a verbal argument. Steele allegedly picked up a glass vase and threw it at Jacobs. The vase hit a glass coffee table, causing the glass to shatter, and hit Jacobs in the leg, causing a laceration.

Jacobs admitted to throwing the vase, but said he had no intention of hitting Jacobs or hurting her.

The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.

Drug charges filed

SHAMOKIN - Kenneth R. Sampsell, 20, of 135 Birch St., Shamokin, was charged with drug offenses following an undercover buy June 16.

Shamokin Police Cpl. Bryan Primerano said in court documents police made arrangements with a confidential informant to conduct a drug buy on that date. Under surveillance, Sampsell allegedly gave Spice to the informant for $30.

Police charged Sampsell with delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, criminal conspiracy, possession of Spice and criminal use of a communication facility. The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin, but no date for a preliminary hearing has been set.

PFA violation

SHAMOKIN - Jeffrey E. Barber, 21, of 77 Raspberry Hill, Shamokin, was charged with violating a protection from abuse order by city police Patrolman Shane Mowery following an incident at 11:30 p.m. July 27 at Market and Arch streets.

Spice charges

SHAMOKIN - City police charged Christian L. Dawson, 21, of 419 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after an overdose incident at a local business at 4 a.m. July 31.

Police were called to the Dunkin Donuts restaurant at that time for a report of two men sitting in a car smoking something and overdosing. Dawson, who police awoke first, allegedly admitted to police that the two were smoking spice.

After getting permission to search the vehicle, Patrolman Nathan Rhoads found a pack of Spice and another bag of a unknown substance, along with an elephant-shaped smoking pipe.

The charges against Dawson were filed Thursday with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - A Sunbury man faces felony retail theft charges after stealing hundreds of dollars of merchandise from the Walmart Supercenter between May 28 and 29.

According to court documents, Coal Township Police Detective Jeffrey Brennan said store security observed Kenneth M. Holland, 34, of 705 N. 7th St., Sunbury, in the store May 28, randomly selecting electronic items and placing them in his cart. The security officer said Holland then moved to the men's department and began to open the merchandise - a computer adapter, speakers and a battery pack - and place the items in a shoe box. Holland then walked to the front of the store and into the restroom, the security officer said.

When he came out, Holland then went back to electronics and selected more items, then went to the shoe department and began concealing them on his person. He went to the restroom again before leaving. Store officials estimated the loss at $333.73.

The next day, store officials informed security that Holland was back in the store, taking headphone sets and putting them into his pockets. He allegedly attempted to leave the store before being stopped by store security and taken into custody.

The total amount of merchandise stolen during both incidents was $767.45. Police said Holland was convicted of retail theft twice in 2014. He is currently facing retail theft charges in Union and Cumberland counties, according to the state judicial website.

He was videoarraigned Thursday and held on $1,000 cash bail. A video preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin, is scheduled for Aug. 18.

Marijuana found

SHAMOKIN - Tracy Tobias, 37, of 548 N. Third St., Shamokin, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia following a search of her residence, according to Shamokin City Police Cpl. Bryan Primerano.

According to court documents, police found a small amount of marijuana and a small baggie with marijuana residue in Tobias' room while searching the residence during a drug investigation involving a juvenile. Tobias told police she had the items for a period of time and that the marijuana was old.

The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.

Downed wires

COAL TOWNSHIP - Police report George M. Follmer, 54, of 20 Hill St., Benton, was traveling west through the intersection of Tioga and Meade streets in his 2001 International tractor trailer truck when he struck Verizon and Service Electric Cablevision wires and pulled them partially off the utility pole.

Crash

ELYSBURG - Ralpho Township Police said Ryan J. Little, 18, of Elysburg, crashed a 2011 Ford Focus sedan near 197 Bear Hollow Road shortly before 1 p.m. Saturday.

Little's vehicle crossed the southbound lane, hit a ditch, rolled twice and came to rest in the northbound lane of travel, police said.

Little and a 17-year-old male from Kulpmont were wearing their seatbelts and were not injured. The vehicle was towed by Tire Ranch, of Elysburg.

SUNBURY - Eight defendants were sentenced recently in the Court of Common Pleas.

- Shane Geary, 31, an inmate at SCI-Coal Township, was ordered Monday by Northumberland County Judge Charles Saylor to serve 82 days to 23 months in county prison on charges of simple assault and criminal mischief relating to a May 10 disturbance at his residence at 1439 W. Fern St., Coal Township. He was given credit for 82 days served in prison.

He was charged by Coal Township police with assaulting his 31-year-old live-in girlfriend, Tara Duzick.

Geary was fined $200 and must make restitution of $475.94 to Duzick.

His sentence runs concurrent to another sentence he is currently serving.

- Justin Petro, 20, of Mount Carmel, was sentenced Monday by Saylor to 3 to 23 months in county prison for possession with intent to deliver spice. He also received a concurrent prison sentence of 3 days to 6 months for driving under the influence of a controlled substance.

Petro was fined $1,050 and will have his driver's license suspended for 12 months.

The defendant was charged by Shamokin police in connection with an incident June 29, 2014.

- David Carper, 26, of Paxinos, was sentenced Monday by Saylor to 5 days to 6 months in county prison for driving under the influence of alcohol and fined $300. He also will have his driver's license suspended for 12 months.

Carper was charged by state police at Stonington in connection with a traffic stop March 8, 2014, at the intersection of Routes 61 and 901 in Mount Carmel Township.

- Troy Tafner, 19, of Strong, was sentenced Monday by President Judge William H. Wiest to 18 months probation and fined $150 for obstructing administration of the law involving a Sept. 1 incident at Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury.

Tafner, a former county corrections officer, was charged by Northumberland County Detective Degg Stark with bringing tobacco into the prison.

- Lonnie Bixler, 48, of Shamokin, was sentenced Monday by Wiest to 16 months intermediate punishment with the first 90 days on house arrest for criminal use of communication facility. Bixler also was ordered to pay a $100 fine.

Shamokin police charged Bixler in connection with an incident May 12, 2014.

- Brian Shaffer Sr., 27, of Shamokin, was sentenced Aug. 3 by Saylor to serve 3 1/2 to 7 years in state prison for a felony count of receiving stolen property, along with concurrent sentences of 1 to 2 years for a pair of simple assault charges. The charges stem from three separate arrests in 2014.

- Adam K. Heim, 35, of Sunbury, was sentenced Aug. 3 by Saylor to serve 6 to 23 months in Northumberland County Prison for felony theft. He was arrested for a January incident in Point Township.

- Jason D. White, 32, of Atlas, was sentenced Aug. 3 by Saylor to serve one year probation for disorderly conduct stemming from a January incident in Sunbury.

Stabbing charges

SHAMOKIN - A Shamokin man was formally charged on allegations he stabbed a man in the city's Fifth Ward earlier this month.

Angel Mario Melendez, 35, of 212 S. Franklin St., is charged by Patrolman Raymond Siko II with aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault, disorderly conduct and possessing an instrument of crime. Melendez is accused of stabbing Jared Lehman, 21, of Northumberland, in his right arm in the 200 block of South Franklin Street about 9:30 p.m. Aug. 2. Lehman was treated at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital, Coal Township.

According to a criminal complaint, Lehman said Melendez attacked him over a relationship with a woman. Melendez struck him twice in the face and stabbed his arm, the complaint states. Melendez later turned himself over to police. He had blood on his clothing but stated he didn't know where it came from, and denied stabbing Lehman, police said.

Fire charges

SHAMOKIN - A city tenant who was allegedly high on spice when he set fire to his apartment has been charged with felony risking catastrophe and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct.

Cpl. Jarrod Scandle filed the charges against Matthew Allen, 36, of 45 S. Shamokin St. According to a criminal complaint, Allen said he was "too whacked out" to remember if he was smoking a cigarette in bed or if a pipe he was using to smoke spice, a synthetic marijuana, caused the fire Aug. 5.

The fire sparked near the headboard on his mattress inside a third floor bedroom. All tenants were evacuated safely. Extensive damage was caused to the building's third floor. Allen suffered burns to his right hand, police said.

Pipe possession

SHAMOKIN - Linda J. Bojanac, 56, of 317 S. Coal St., is charged by Cpl. Jarrod Scandle with possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said she was observed sitting in the 300 block of South Seventh Street with a smoking pipe and marijuana about 8:40 p.m. July 23. Bojanac admitted to possessing the pipe and marijuana, according to a criminal complaint.

Disorderly conduct

SHAMOKIN - Charles J. Propst, 57, of 124 E. Chestnut St., is charged by Patrolman Raymond Siko II with disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. Propst is accused of defecating behind the first block of West Independence Street at 8:50 p.m. Aug. 7. His pants were around his ankles and his penis and buttocks were exposed to passing motorists, according to a criminal complaint. Police said he smelled strongly of alcohol and admitted to drinking beer throughout the day.

DUI crash

PAXINOS - Shannon Noel Hommel, 24, of 334 Linden St., Sunbury, is charged by Trooper Jared Mowen, state police at Stonington, with two counts of driving under the influence and one count of drivers required to be license, driving on roadways laned for traffic, driving vehicle at safe speed, careless driving, reckless driving and occupant protection. Police said Hommel tested positive for prescription medication and marijuana following a rollover crash July 27 on Route 61 near Miles Road. The 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee she was driving twice crossed the cement median into the oncoming lane of traffic before rolling onto its roof. She was not wearing a seat belt and did not have a driver's license, police said.

Kitchen fire

SHAMOKIN - Sabrina Rose Hummel, 31, of 6 S. Franklin St., is charged by Patrolman Raymond Siko II with two felony counts of arson, felony risking a catastrophe, and a summary charge of arson-dangerous burning. Police said Hummel set fire to a trash can inside the kitchen of her home about 7:55 p.m. Aug. 1. Police said Hummel admitted to starting the fire. She was taken to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, for a mental health evaluation, according to a criminal complaint.

Drug charges

DIAMONTOWN - Zachary Allen Starr, 29, of 503 E. Fifth St., is charged by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman David Tomtishen with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and permitting violation of title. Police said a small amount of marijuana and heroin were found inside Starr's vehicle during a traffic stop about 11:30 p.m. July 22 near the viaduct on Route 61.

Starr and Patricia M. Phelan, 29, of 336 S. Locust St., were passenger in the vehicle. Phelan is charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said a small amount of marijuana was found inside her purse.

The vehicle's driver, Kasey Lee Starr, 23, of 501 E. Fifth St., is charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license DUI related, driving while operating privilege is suspended, drivers required to be licensed, required financial responsibility, carrying and exhibiting a registration card, general lighting requirements and restraint systems.

Careless driving

MOUNT CARMEL - Susan Marie Medved, 46, of 335 W. Fifth St., is charged by Patrolman Matthew Dillman with driving under the influence, misbranding a controlled substance and two counts of careless driving. Police said Medved crashed a Ford sedan into a parked Ford Bronco in the 300 block of West Seventh Street about 12:30 a.m. July 20. Multiple prescription medications were discovered inside the vehicle, according to a criminal complaint.

Theft charges

MOUNT CARMEL - Joseph Smallets, 28, of 213 S. Oak St., Apt. B, and Andrew Stewart Colon, 26, of 645 N. Sixth St., Reading, is charged by Lt. Christopher Buhay with criminal conspiracy, theft and public drunkenness. The two are accused by police of rummaging through vehicles, attempting to enter locked vehicles and being highly intoxicated. Charges stem from an incident July 14 in the 300 block of South Poplar Street.

Theft, drug charges

MOUNT CARMEL - Joseph Charles Shoup, 31, of 501 E. Fifth St., is charged by Patrolman William Adamski with possession of drug paraphernalia, delivery of drug paraphernalia and possession of a small amount of marijuana. Police said empty heroin packets, a plastic baggie, prescription pill bottle and small amount of marijuana were discovered inside his home about 9:30 p.m. July 26 after police were dispatched to the area to investigate an alleged theft of money from a vehicle.

Shoup is also charged by Adamski with possession of drug paraphernalia, delivery of drug paraphernalia, adulterated or altered controlled substance, retail theft and public drunkenness. Shoup is accused of stealing food, personal hygiene products, electronic accessories and beverages from Turkey Hill about 8:10 p.m. July 25. Total value of the items Shoup allegedly attempted to steal was approximately $143. Police said he also was in possession of prescription pills and a pen allegedly used to snort powder.

Charges dismissed

MOUNT CARMEL - Charges of simple assault and harassment filed by Ralpho Township Patrolman Chris Dailey against Tyrik W. Johnson, 27, of Bloomsburg, were withdrawn Wednesday when the alleged victim, Heather Roeder, of Orangeville, refused to testify at a preliminary hearing.

Johnson was charged with assaulting Roeder at an Elysburg residence Sunday morning.

DUI charges

MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Kelly Campbell has charged Timothy W. Weaver, 36, of 336 S. Beech St., Mount Carmel, with two counts of driving under the influence of a controlled substance involving a June 23 traffic stop at the Mount Carmel Car Wash along Locust Gap Highway.

Police said Weaver was under the influence of a painkiller.

Drug offenses

MOUNT CARMEL - Joseph M. Lamas, 33, of 243 Chestnut St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Patrolman Justin Stelma with possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence of a controlled substance and careless driving involving a June 26 incident in the 100 block of North Chestnut Street.

Police reported Lamas was found in possession of heroin, 14 wrappers used for heroin, a syringe, spoon and glass smoking pipe. He also is accused of driving under the influence of morphine.

Cruelty to animals

MOUNT CARMEL - Edward J. Bolam, 46, of 512 W. Saylor St., Atlas, was charged by Lt. Christopher Buhay with cruelty to animals and two counts of disorderly conduct.

According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, Bolam is accused of allowing his dog to continuously bark in a vacant property he owns at 345 S. Locust St. Police said the barking occurred between June 28 and July 17.

Multiple charges

RIVERSIDE - Serena Lee Beck, 31, of 1720 Maple Ave., Coal Township, was charged by Officer Timothy Kiefaber with two counts of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of a misbranded substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, false identification to law enforcement authorities, two counts of driving under suspension and a turn signal violation.

The charges relate to a July 1 traffic stop in the 100 block of Elysburg Road.

Police reported Beck had phentermine, clonazepam, marijuana, oxycodone and oxymorphone in her blood system.

DUI

MOUNT CARMEL - Janelle Kristen Nye, 25, of 915 W. Montgomery St., Coal Township, was charged by Patrolman Jason Drumheller with driving under the influence of alcohol and a stop sign violation relating to a June 27 accident at Market and Second streets.

Police reported Nye refused to submit to a blood test.

Deceptive business

MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Charges of theft and deceptive business practices were filed by Chief of Police Brian Hollenbush against Joseph Thomas McGinley, 51, of 250 S. Poplar St., Mount Carmel.

Police said McGinley is accused of receiving $3,520 from Sherry Doyle on Dec. 20, 2011, for repair work at a residence at 201 Wood St., Atlas, that he never completed. Doyle told police she gave McGinley cash for half of the total projected cost for the renovations because he had completed numerous other jobs for her in the past with no issues.

Two-vehicle crash

COAL TOWNSHIP - No injuries were reported in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday morning on Route 61 at Burger King.

Coal Township Patrolman Chad Yoder reported Larry Smith, 74, of Atlas, had his 2011 Jeep stopped at the intersection waiting to turn left to travel south on Route 61 shortly before 11:30 a.m. when a Disposal Management Services garbage truck operated by Alexander Epley, 35, of Bloomsburg, struck the passenger side of Smith's vehicle. Police said Epley was attempting to turn right onto Route 61 from the jughandle.

The Jeep sustained damage to its passenger side from the rear bumper to front fender.

Smith, Epley and a passenger in Smith's Jeep, Kathy Gallagher, 44, of Shamokin, escaped injury.

Route 61 crash

COAL TOWNSHIP - Luis Martinez-Medina, 19, of 1014 N. Pearl St., Shamokin, faces traffic citations from Coal Township police following a crash Thursday night along Route 61.

Martinez-Medina was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt north shortly before 11 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle while rounding "brewery curve." The vehicle crossed the median and struck the driver-side of a southbound 2014 Ford Escape driven by Bryan Hornberger, 42, of 1424 Hemlock St., Coal Township.

Martinez-Medina's vehicle continued into a guide rail, while Hornberger's vehicle crossed the median and both northbound lanes of travel and traveled into an embankment.

A third vehicle, a 2008 Ford Escape driven north by Andrea Ignaszewski, 32, of 1550 Wabash St., Coal Township, struck a bumper laying in the road that came loose from Martinez-Medina's vehicle. Ignazsewski's vehicle sustained minor damage. The other vehicles sustained moderate to heavy damage and were towed. Police did not release information on the drivers' conditions.

Drug charges

MOUNT CARMEL - Neil Edward Swatsky, 32, of 211 S. Poplar St., is charged by Cpl. David Donkochik with possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance. Mary Beth Goodlunas, 42, same address, is charged with intent to use drug paraphernalia.

Police say Swatsky had four needles and a piece of a Suboxone tablet, and that Goodlunas had a glass stem with burned residue when they were confronted outside their home about 7:20 p.m. July 16.

Lotto theft

MOUNT CARMEL - Joey James Levesque, 21, of 338 S. Pear St., and Kelly Jo Dziadosz, 18, of 33 E. Sixth St., are charged by Cpl. David Donkochik with theft, receiving stolen property, criminal conspiracy to commit theft and criminal conspiracy receiving stolen property.

Police say Levesque was working part-time at Turkey Hill Minit Markets on June 30 when he stole lottery tickets or gave them away to Dziadosz and a 17-year-old male, who faces the same charges in juvenile court. According to a criminal complaint, Levesque is responsible for $900 in cash or lottery tickets allegedly stolen from the store.

One injured in crash

CLEVELAND TOWNSHIP - A Catawissa man was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 5:35 p.m. Saturday in the area of Pine Swamp Road, Cleveland Township.

Locust Township Police Cpl. Christopher Snyder reported a 2007 Nissan Frontier, driven by Jacob A. Schoch, 30, of 31 Birch Lane, was traveling north on Pine Swamp Road when he struck a tree head-on.

Schoch was taken to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was treated and released while the vehicle had to be towed from the scene. Snyder said that charges are pending the results of toxicology tests.

Assisting Locust Township Police at the scene were Ralpho Township Cpl. Bryon Chowka, and members of the Valley Chemical Fire Department, Roaring Creek Valley Quick Response Squad, the Bloomsburg Ambulance Company and the Berwick Ambulance Company.

Crash

RALPHO TOWNSHIP - Police here are investigating a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 12:49 p.m. Monday when a silver Honda Accord sedan driven by Steven Hricenak, 18, was traveling west on Route 54 and lost control while attempting to turn on to Bear Gap Road. According to Ralpho Township Police, the Elysburg man struck a utility pole and heavily damaged his car. Hricenak sustained no injuries and his car was towed from the scene by Tire Ranch, Elysburg. Assisting Ralpho Township Police Chief Stu Appel at the scene were the Elysburg and Overlook fire departments, Elysburg Ambulance and fire police. Crews from PPL's Marion Heights substation responded to replace the damaged pole.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Police charged Christopher E. Ransel, 46, of 236 S. Shamokin St., Shamokin, with retail theft for allegedly attempting to take merchandise valued at $89.88 from Walmart Supercenter July 20.

Drug paraphernalia

COAL TOWNSHIP - Charles Troup III, 21, of 536 N. Second St., Shamokin, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after police said he was found with drug paraphernalia at the intersection of Owl and Independence streets shortly before midnight Aug. 2.

Theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Tiffany Haddock, 31, of 719 E. Independence St., Shamokin, faces charges of theft and receiving stolen property after police said she stole blank checks from John Oravitz's residence, 612 S. Shamokin St., Shamokin, sometime between July 11 and 15.

Police said Haddock used the checks to make purchases to her own benefit totalling $912.55 at Walmart Supercenter.

Criminal mischief

COAL TOWNSHIP - Heather Buch, of 933 W. Spruce St., reported an unknown person scratched her 2002 Hyundai Sonata while it was parked on Spruce Street near her house.

Underage drinking

SHAMOKIN - Cpl. Jarrod Scandle has cited six teens for underage drinking involving a party at 116 S. Second St. in the early morning hours of Aug. 5.

Cited were Christopher McCabe, 19, of 52 Berry St., Coal Township; Cheyenne Popewczak, 19, of 3560 Upper Road, Shamokin; Jacob P. Schweitzer, 18, of 1700 Pulaski Ave., Coal Township; Catelin Pancher, 19, of 4254 Upper Road, Shamokin; a 17-year-old Paxinos female, and a 17-year-old Elysburg female.

Furnishing charge

COAL TOWNSHIP - Charles Amos Troup III, 21, of 536 N. Second St., Shamokin, was charged by Cpl. Joshua Wynn with furnishing beer to an 18-year-old female June 27 in the 1100 block of West Arch Street.

Troup also was charged by Patrolman Christopher Lapotsky with possession of drug paraphernalia involving an Aug. 2 incident at Independence and Owl streets, where he was found with a tinfoil smoking pipe.

He was arraigned Tuesday by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III and committed to county prison in lieu of $6,000 bail on both charges.

Guilty pleas

SHAMOKIN - Three defendants pleaded guilty to charges Tuesday and were each ordered by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to pay a $200 fine plus costs.

Rachel Graham, 32, of 343 S. Diamond St., Shamokin, pleaded guilty to a summary of retail theft. An additional charge of criminal conspiracy to commit retail theft was withdrawn.

Graham was charged by Coal Township Cpl. Joshua Wynn with stealing $327.30 worth of merchandise from Walmart Supercenter Oct. 24.

Drew Wagner, 25, and Marilyn Hughes, 23, both of 831 E. Clay St., Shamokin, pleaded guilty to harassment. An additional charge of simple assault was withdrawn against both defendants.

The couple were charged by Shamokin Patrolman Raymond Siko II in a July 15 domestic dispute.

DUI

COAL TOWNSHIP - Theodore Pietkewicz, 42, of 904 E. Sunbury St., Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman David Sage with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol relating to a July 13 incident on Reinhart Road.

Police said Pietkewicz had a blood-alcohol content of .169 percent.

Disorderly conduct

SHAMOKIN - Alysia A. Haller, 32, of 29 N. Seventh St., Shamokin, was cited by Patrolman Raymond Siko II for two counts of disorderly conduct involving a disturbance at 6:45 p.m. Aug. 7 in the first block of North Seventh Street.

Police reported Haller is accused of screaming at a neighbor, throwing garbage and breaking glass in the street.

Ibn M. Islam, 38, of 25 N. Seventh St., Shamokin, was cited by Siko for disorderly conduct for screaming at a neighbor relating to the same disturbance.

Disorderly conduct

SHAMOKIN - A 17-year-old boy, a 16-year-old boy, a 14-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy, all of Shamokin, were cited by Patrolman Shane Mowery for disorderly conduct after they cursed, screamed and threatened to assault someone in the 300 block of South Pearl Street at 6:48 p.m. Friday.

Jose Caban, 32, of 17 S. Rock St., Shamokin, was also cited by Mowery for disorderly conduct for cursing, screaming and threatening a man while holding a shovel during the same incident.

Criminal mischief

SHAMOKIN - Stefani Manzoni, 24, of 716 Follies Road, Dallas, was cited by Cpl. Bryan Primerano with criminal mischief after police said she intentionally damaged a window at 1 E. Arch St. at 7:23 a.m. Aug. 8.

City police requested Manzoni pay $98.36 in restitution.

Trespass

SHAMOKIN - A 15-year-old Coal Township boy and two 15-year-old Shamokin boys were cited by Patrolman Scott Weaver with criminal trespass and violating a city curfew ordinance after police said they entered the Lawton W. Shroyer Memorial Pool through a fence shortly before 1 a.m. Aug. 4.

Harassment

SHAMOKIN - Kyle Gulliver, 18, of 805 E. Dewart St., Shamokin, was cited by Patrolman Shane Mowery with harassment for allegedly striking and shoving another person at around 10:30 p.m. Friday at 140 W. Lincoln St.

Underage drinking

SHAMOKIN - A 17-year-old Shamokin boy was cited by Patrolman Raymond Siko II for underage drinking, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness after police said he was found intoxicated at around 11 p.m. Aug. 7 at the intersection of Pearl and Willow streets.

Liquor law violation

MOUNT CARMEL - Nicholas M. Gummel, owner of the Silver Spur at 249-251 S. Oak St., Mount Carmel, has been cited by the state Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement for selling liquor and/or malt beverages after his liquor license expired March 31.

Police said the offense occurred April 3 and April 4.

The charge will be brought before an administrative law judge who has the authority to impose penalties ranging from $50 to $1,000 for minor offenses and up to $5,000 for more serious offenses. The judge also can impose a license suspension or revocation of the license based on the severity of the charge.

Disorderly conduct

SHAMOKIN - Brenton Foreman, 18, of 405 S. Fifth St., Shamokin, was cited by Patrolman Scott Weaver for disorderly conduct involving a disturbance at the Fifth Street playground at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Retail theft

SHAMOKIN - Patrolman William Miner has charged Julie A. Bielski, 50, of 124 W. Mulberry St., Shamokin, with retail theft for allegedly removing two pain relief pills and consuming them at the Dollar General at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 1.

Public drunkenness

SHAMOKIN - David J. Swatski Jr., 33, of 543 E. Arch St., Shamokin, was cited by Patrolman William Miner for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct relating to a disturbance at 5:30 a.m. Aug. 7 in the 300 block of South Diamond Street.

Police said Swatski pounded on a door and challenged people to fight.

Criminal mischief

MONROE TOWNSHIP - An unknown person or persons shot windows of Tedd's Landing, 45 Route 11, with a BB gun between 2 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday in this Snyder County township. Anyone with information is asked to call state police at Selinsgrove at 570-374-8145.
